::music cues and fades to an advertisement showing an Andorian man looking exhausted over a poorly lit desk doing tedious paperwork::

Narrator: Are you tired of the same old routine, day in and day out, being just another cog in the machine?  Do you feel like you were meant for something more?

::Andorian looks up at the screen, antennae perking up with interest::

Narrator: Then go down and visit your local colonial liaison officer and become part of the adventure of exploration and settling the frontier with the Federation's Civilian Settlement Program.  Don't think you need to be part of Starfleet to discover new worlds and be where it's all happening.  There are thousands of worlds just waiting for you! ::fades to images of colonial worlds of various types and development:: to become a leading representative of all that the Federation has to offer.  Colonies, new and old, need all types of skills to flourish.  The open and untapped natural surroundings are terrific places to raise families away from the dense congestion of homeworlds and major cities.

Narrator: There frontier isn't going anywhere, but that doesn't mean you should wait for it to come to you!  We'll see YOU, out there!

::FNN music fades back in, showing Tom Brucker::

Welcome back.  The top story tonight is what some have begun calling the Battle of Carrie Eight.  What began several weeks ago as a hostage situation when a rogue Jem'Hadar faction infiltrated and took control of the Starfleet MACO base stationed on the planet quickly escalated into a major operation, codeneamed Clean Sweep, lead by Lieutenant General Richard Sharpe along with the 92nd ACR MACO unit, after initial negotiation attempts reportedly failed.  Rescue operations to reclaim the hostages were overseen by officers from Starbase Zetari, perhaps the most prominent element of Starfleet presence in the Gamma Quadrant.  Our preliminary reports have confirmed there were some casualties, notably Zetari's commanding officer Captain Denterius among them, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

Inside sources have confirmed that shortly after the base was secured by the 92nd, Captain Alessandro of Alpha Fleet's Corps of Engineers was tasked with rebuilding the heavily damaged facility.  The Carrie government has lodged an official complaint against Starfleet for commencing with a military response without consulting with Carrie's own military contingent.  Contacts in the diplomatic offices here on Earth have suggested that this complaint is largely posturing in an attempt to safe face, but in reality they were not equipped to deal with a Jem'Hadar presence.  Top officials within Starfleet are suggesting commendations to those involved for the swift and decisive action against the hostile aggression towards the Federation and its allies in the Carrie system.

Several starships assisted in Operation Cleansweep, though one reportedly was unable to arrive in time.  The USS Cortez was held up due to unexplained reasons at Starbase 514, Alpha Fleet's deep-ranged headquarters, though they reportedly left not long after, their destination unconfirmed by Alpha Fleet command.  In the Beta Quadrant, the USS Archer is also reportedly overdue for their return from the Delta Quadrant.

On the subject of missing starships, the USS Kingston, a highly advanced Sovereign-X class, has reportedly disappeared as well, though some speculation has arisen as to the Kingston's involvement in the recent destruction of another starship.  The USS Atlantia has been tasked with tracking the Kingston down.

Coming up, changes in Starfleet's prominent command roles with new and old faces emerging.

::fades to tourism commercial for planet Fhloston, "Better than Risa!"::

Welcome back.  Beta Fleet has some new commanders in its midst.  Vice-Admiral Savannah Gallagher has been appointed as the new Fleet Commander.  She brings a fresh face to a troubled region and many see her appointment as a sign of positive change.  One such change was enacted shortly after accepting the position, which was with the appointment of Read Admiral Jason Thompson, a veteran officer who served with distinction during the 2nd Dominion War, to command of Starbase 99.  Rear Admiral Thompson's popularity among his peers and crews bodes well for the station, which has often been the center point of political and military strife due to it's contested location between the Federation, Romulan Star Empire and Klingon Empire.

That's all the time we have for tonight.  Join us next time as we bring you the latest and most pressing stories from around the galaxy.  Next time: Ferengi smuggling rings; and the Prime Directive: a hindrance or a necessity?

This has been Tom Brucker, reporting to you live from Paris, Earth.  See you next time.

::cue ending music::
