Ricky headed down to the small engineering section on the Saber class
ship USS Freyja to meet up with the ships chief engineer Lieutenant
Justin Ripley. Ricky was finding it weird having a ship of his own in
the position he was in but again at the same time with all the
different facilities within Alpha Fleets jurisdiction it made a little
bit more sense.
"Ah Captain........" Justin said looking tired like most of the fleet
staff was. Ever since the Carrie Eight situation everyone was put on
high alert even the Corp of Engineers. Even though there was very
little fleet engineering could do at the moment but they could come up
with ways of preventing anything like this from happening again.
"Lieutenant how is the new Saber model working out for you?" Ricky
asked smiling knowing the new upgrades gave a significant power
upgrade to all ships systems.
"She's a beauty though not on par with the new Defiant class but she
can still hold her own." Justin smiled even though it was probably a
little forced. "Anyways what's going on?" He asked trying to gauge
what the Captain came down here for.
"Alright.......your going to think I'm crazy, but I've been studying
Cardassian engineering and found some intriguing insights and things
we could use. For example their OSATs more specifically the Koral
class." Ricky said that and watched the face of Justin he knew full
well that Cardassian technology was no where near as advanced as
Federation, Klingon and or Romulan.
"I agree the Cardassians have made some impressive ships and other
engineering feats but for us to base something off of them is insane."
Justin said looking at the Captain, "I mean no disrespect but it's
still a Cardassian design."
"That shouldn't matter Lieutenant.......I mean look at the Romulans
they borrowed the hull design of the Klingon D-7 battlecrusier and
let's be honest of all the species out there the Romulans would've
been the last one I would have thought would borrow a hull design."
Ricky said going back into history.
"Okay fair enough, but were would we place these?" Justin asked
knowing that these were placed around planets that held great
importance to empires.
"In the Gamma Quadrant to start. We could place these in areas where
we might not be able to have regular patrols. The idea is that there
would be something always there to give us an early warning system."
Ricky said, "I know that StarFleet hasn't taken these into great use
but now may be the time to start using the OSATs more effectively."
"Okay I can start working on how we can mass produce these without
using up a lot of resources and I can get a team working on power
supply and defensives for it." Justin said with a small smile glad to
finally have a large project to start working on.
"Excellent keep me informed the Freyja is scheduled to do some checks
of some of the smaller facilities that are apart of Alpha Fleet. So
I'll need you to be the my deputy Chief for Engineering." Ricky added.
Justing just nodded as he watched the Captain walk out of engineering
shaking his head Justing chuckled lightly but he also agreed that the
Cardassians knew how to make the best they could with what they had.
