since halloween is coming up, we HAVE to do a scary movie!
this is what i have in mind so far...it's gonna sound similar to scary
movies we've seen before like the grudge or amityville house...
a couple just moved into a new house in a nice quiet neighborhood.
what they don't know is that for the last 3 decades, there have been
murders and suicide in each of the familes that lived there.
history of the house: back in the 1970s, there was a housewife who had
mental illness. she was taking all these antidepressant medicine that
made her a little crazy. she was paranoid and always thought the world
was out to get her. she has dementia and psychological issues. one
day, her husband and their baby daughter was napping in the bed. she
came in and she hallucinated her husband sleeping next to another
woman. she killed the baby and her husband. when the police came, she
went ballistic and shot herself. til present day, she haunts the house
and the families who lived there.
i dont have a full script yet, but here are some the scenes i have
already played out in my head (hehehe im bored) let's say the main
characters name is Jack and My :)
1. couple is greeted by their neighbors, another couple, and is
invited over for dinner. during dinner, My can sense that the wife
(the neighbor) is trying to tell her something, but keeps getting
interrupted by her husband on purpose. when jack ask about the family
that lived in the house before, the husband quickly changes subject to
avoid the topic. dinner is over. as the neighbor walks down the
sidewalk, the wife asks, "I think we should tell them the truth." the
husband responds, "they're not going to believe us. let them find out
for themselves." at the same moment, My is watching them from the
window. (dramatic, eerie music is playing in the background, so it
adds tension).
2. 3rd night at the house. My is upstairs in the bedroom doing stuff
on the laptop. she suddenly feels cold so she puts on a sweater. Jack
is downstairs watching tv. (while the camera is going back and forth
between the two, the angle can be situated like someone is watching
them. like, if jack is watching tv in the living room, the angle can
be from upstairs, in the corner looking down at him. My's angle will
be upclose.) As My is typing, she breathes out cold air. Frustrated,
she gets up to turn the air off. She goes down stairs. "Honey, why are
you wearing a sweater?" She responds, "It's freaking cold up in the
bedroom. Why did you turn the air so low? It's just Houston weather,
not the desert." "What are you talking about, it's warm down here." My
goes over to the thermostat, and sees that it is set at 90 degrees.
(usually, when a room is cold for weird reasons, that means there is a
presence there)
3. 5th night. during dinner, My tells Jack that she feels uneasy in
the house, especially in the bedroom. he jokes on that. after dinner,
they both go outside. jack is preparing to jog, and my is checking the
mail. (the audience watching knows that they are both outside so no
one is in the house). As My starts to walk back into the house, the
camera will catch the whole front house. (let's hope the house we use
will have windows in the front) from there, in one of the windows, in
a lighted room, we see a shadow of a woman walking by slowly.
4. that very night......jack and my is sleeping in bed. they are both
sleeping back to back on opposite edges of the bed. the camera will
view from My's side, then goes over the bed (we will see that there is
a space between jack and my) and then the camera goes down to jack's
side. the camera will focus there, because slowly, we start to see a
hand go over jack's shoulder. Jack thinks My is trying to be naughty.
"My, I'm tired. I have to work early tomorrow." (think of the ghost
like the ghost from the grudge). Then, you start to see the ghost
lifting its head from behind jack's body. "Tomorrow My, I promise." He
touches the ghost hand. "Are you freezing over there? Your hands are
so cold." My wakes up and the ghost disappears. "What are you mumbling
about?" "Didn't we agree? No loving after midnight?" "Having another
horny dream?" "I know you were trying touch me, trying to get freaky."
"Sweetie, I was sleeping this whole time." Jack and My faces each
other. "Honey, we've been married for years now. There's no need to be
embarrassed." He touches her hand. "Wait, how did your hand get warm
so fast?" "You must be having a nightmare." They go back to sleep.
5. My comes home from work the next day. It is late in the evening.
She's on the phone with Jack. From their conversation, the audience
knows that Jack is going out with some buddies and will be home in an
hour for dinner. As My gets the groceries from the trunk, she sees the
bedroom light on, the ONLY light on in the house. "Sweetie, did you
turn off all the lights before you left for work?" "Yes I did." (she
has a questionable look on her face).
All the events is going to lead to the climax. It's just building up
the tension for the audience.
So far, this is just a draft. Once i get new ideas, ill email it to
ya.
Let me know what you think and if you want to do it.
i think now we should go into the climax of the story...all the
previous events is a good lead in...
6. So My has a questionable look on her face, but she continues to
bring in the groceries and start dinner. My is chopping (onions,
cucumber, something). She gets the chills. You see her breathing out
cold air for a brief second. She's done chopping or whatever, and
places the knife directly down on the cutting board. She turns around
to put something into the microwave. As she closes the microwave door,
there is a reflection of the ghost, but My doesn't see because she was
looking down somewhere. She turns around and is shocked. She sees the
knife stabbed into the cutting board. She slowly moves forward and
pulls the knife from the board. At the same time, you can see her
breathing out cold air again. Then she hears a faint whisper, "Kill
him." she freaks and drops the knife on the ground. "Okay, My, you're
freaking out for no reason. just calm down."
7. After dinner...camera catches view of My downstairs in the pantry,
getting laundry. Jack is upstairs in the restroom brushing his teeth.
While he's brushing, he catches a glimpse of a shadow walking by
behind him. He spits out the paste in his mouth. "My?" He pokes his
head out of the restroom door, looking both ways. "My?" "I'm
downstairs in the laundry room." He turns around and is scared from
what he sees on the mirror. "Die." He pokes his head out again. "My
come here quick!" when he looks back, nothing is on the mirror. My
gets there. "What is it?" "Oh, nothing."
8. That night, both My and Jack are sitting up in bed. The lights are
dim. It looks like they both can't sleep. "Lately, do you feel
something out of place?" Jack asks. "You sense that too? When I'm
alone in the house, I get this feeling that someone else is in the
house." "I'm beginning to think about bringin someone over to bless
the house and get rid of anything here." "That's just superstition."
"I rather do that than to have us be scared in our own house."
9. Jack comes home from work the next night and goes to the bedroom.
He has flowers in his hand. "My, you left a message saying youre sick
and bring home medicine." He looks into the bedroom and doesn't see
her, only the tv on. The room is dim. "My?" No response. He walks in a
little further. He's kind of scared now. He whispers, "My?" The camera
is angled from behind. My walks up behind him. But her hair is messy,
so from the camera's view, it looks like the ghost. He turns around
and screams. "you look like a ghost," he said. "Keep saying that and
maybe you'll see one." she replied. "Why are you home so late?" "I had
to stay to finish up some
10. Same setting. Now she's sitting on the bed watching tv. My looks
really sick. Jack is changing. They start a side conversation. As Jack
is changing shirts, he sees a reflection of the ghost sitting in the
same area as My. He quickly turns around and sees only My. "What's
wrong?"
11. The next morning, Jack is in the driveway getting ready to go to
work when he sees the neighbor. It is the wife. He goes up to her. "Do
you mind if I ask you something. How long have you lived in this
neighborhood?" "Almost 9 years now." "Do you know anything about the
house we're living in?" "What do you mean?" "Anything strange
happening? What happen to the family that lived here before?" "I
really don't know." "I think you do. The other night at dinner, I
think you were trying to tell us something." "If I told you, you'll
think I'm crazy." "Try me. Look, my wife and I, we don't feel safe in
that house. If you know something, please, let us know." she looks
around. "They seem like a nice family. Father was a working man,
mother was a housewife, and two great kids. They were a classy,
conservative family. But not too long after they moved in, the wife
began acting unusual." "What happened to them?" "My husband and I came
home one day. Policemen were all over the house. They wife had killed
the father and children, and then killed herself." "A murder-suicide?
I know that's not common, but what makes this any different?" "The
family before them? Same thing."
BLAH BLAH BLAH. Okay, my mind is not thinking much today. that's all i
can think of so far.
just remember, conversation can be changed to fit the situation.
everything right now is just a rough draft.
everyone can feel free to add in something.

My ideas came from three scary movies I've seen recently (if you
consider "The Sixth Sense" recent): The Eye, The Grudge, and The
Sixth Sense. From "The Sixth Sense," I get the idea that ghosts
sometimes don't know they're ghosts. From "The Eye," ghosts that "Chet
Oan" tend to re-enact their death. From "The Grudge," (I hope you've
all seen this one because it's a classic (the original Japanese
version that is)) I learned that you can scary people very effectively
using simple techniques (for instance, a face painted white, a face
covered by long hair, or simple use of sound effects).
My idea for a scary movie is very simple. See if you can picture what
I'm trying to portray and how it's related to the three movies
aforementioned. Here it goes:
-A girl leaves a party (like Thang's party :). Before she leaves the
party she interacts with some people in the party (I envision this
could be an actual party or a group of friends chatting outside of
Saigon Houston Radio parking lot). So, a girl leaves a party and walk
home by herself. On the way walking home, she passes by streets partly
lit with trees around (by the way, this could by daylight; doesn't
have to be at night). She quickly gets worried because the streets are
very emptied; she wanted to get home as quickly as possible (hey, who
wouldn't?).
-She was passing by a light pole...or at least she thought she was. In
an instant, her whole body's stiff as ice. She stood there on the
sidewalk, frozen. Right next to her on the left is a shape, resembling
that of human but the face is white as cloud and eyes are black as
charcoal. She's afraid to turn and look. Her thoughts are to run as
fast as she could but her feet refuse to obey. Her heart is pounding
on her chest.
-She turns.
-There was nobody.
-Everything was quiet except for the sound of her heartbeats. She
pauses for a few seconds, then kept on walking. She's thinking about
going back to her friends, but she's walked a long distance now and
it's too far to come back. She carefully looks left and right while
walking although she doesn't want to look. From the back, a hand with
5 white fingers reaches for her shoulder and touches it. She
instantaneously turns around, asking "who's there?" She finds nobody.
At that point, a white face right behind her moves closer and closer
to her body until it's about 5 inches from her shoulder, as though it
wants to sniff her shoulder. She feels it and slowly turns around.
-Right in front of her, two people were walking side by side, looks
like a boyfriend and a girlfriend. She quickly yells out: "Hey, hold
one, wait for me!" The two people in front of her did not seem to hear
her. She yelled louder but it was useless. She started running and
yelling at the same time, but the more she runs the farther the
distant between her and the two people in front of her. She stopped
and stomped down at the ground to catch her breath. As she looks down
she saw two white feet and they weren't hers. As she slowly looks up,
just inches in front of her there's a figure in a white robe, with
long hair over the face. She quickly took a few steps back, turns
around and run. She runs straight into the street and hit a car (or
rather a car hit her). In the final scene, we don't see her die, and
the car just roles along.
-You know why? Because she's a ghost herself! She got killed by a car
once and so she's just re-enacting the scene again. She only sees and
hears what she wants to. We'll give hints that she's a ghost (before
she got hit by a car) by showing her wearing really red high-heel
shoes.
-Now that I think about it, since I used to stay late in the library
studying until 2:00AM, I think we can make this a scenario where the
girl and a few of her friends study in a library (at UH) and she was
walking to her car after she and her friends departed from the library
when all of this happen.
