My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your malware issue. Since we'll be working together, you can call me Aura or Yoan, which is my real name, it's up to you! Now that we've broke the ice, I'll just ask you a few things during the time we'll be working together to clean your system and get it back to an operational state.
And yes, it's normal for the Malwarebytes installation directory to be protected. If I were you, I would uninstall it and install it to its proper default location (C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes) to avoid these kind of issues, as you don't want to use that folder to store other files (such as FRST).
haha, all visible signs of the infection are now removed (including the accessing of the website when starting up firefox). Have you taken a look at the zip file and the malwarebytes website blocked.txt and the zip C.7z ?
I did, thank you. Me and my colleagues are analyzing everything related to that infection right now. I would like you to run a scan with MBAR, as we might have found a rootkit in that infection as well.
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) - Recovery Environment Scan
Follow the instructions below to download and execute a scan on your system with FRST from the Recovery Environment, and provide the logs in your next reply.
Alright, FRST doesn't report anything. Next we'll run a scan with GMER. A simple scan shouldn't make your system crash, but it COULD happen. Therefore, I would ask you to run the scan with GMER and leave it be. Do not use your computer until the scan is done. It shouldn't take too long anyway.
The problem is, I would prefer to just start malwarebytes when I need it. But, it starts when I login into Windows and does not show up in the startup tab of task manger so I do not know how to stop it from starting up at start-up.
I'm not entirely sure why companies feel that annoying pop up ads are a good marketing strategy. LOL I have Malwarebytes free version, so I deal with the annoying pop ups cuz they have a good product.
This is the most disruptive thing happening on my computer these days - exactly what I installed Malwarebytes to avoid. I am in the process of looking for a new anti-malware.
Incredibly poor decision from your product designers.
I understand the issue in the free version but I have not seen any notification in the paid version. I assume you saw a message concerning Malwarebytes Privacy? I have Privacy so I guess that could be the reason I have not seen it.
What I don't understand is if malwarebytes is supposed to be against computer Ad-ware, why it then uses that as a tactic to get people to upgrade to pro. You're either one thing or another. Anti-Malware or Ad-ware.
It's advertising, and if malwsrebytes is against it, then maybe they should remove it from their software. As well as automatically forcing their users to start the premium trial and making it harder to switch out of.
We are not against Advertising. We're against advertising such that you install the program but cannot remove malware without paying for the product. That is a bait and switch type of advertising which we are clearly not participating in. The free version is fully capable of scanning and removing any found threats just as the paid product is.
Though it may be annoying to some, sales figures and thank you emails from many users make up the other side of the coin by users that have welcomed it. We thank you for your feedback and we do try to minimize the frequency of Ads even for the free product
It has been like that for quite a while now. You would be amazed on how many users find their systems infected but did not know till the web protection blocks of the trial notified them of an issue.
Yes, and then shortly after that I uninstalled the software because I was still getting pop-ups after running a scan. And yes, I do know that I can just close it from the tray. It was more out of annoyance of having to do this everytime that I started this software. You are right, malwarebytes is not the software for me, I have already switched to Windows Defeneder\Security and it's free anti-virus\anti-malware\anti-ransom protection which only sends notifactions when a scan has been completed. It may not be as good as Malwarebytes, but it does what I need.
The Keynote will be available to stream on apple.com, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel. On-demand playback will be available after the conclusion of the stream.
A while back, I was told by an apple tech support person to download malware bytes to clear up a problem. After the problem was resolved, I removed malwarebytes from my computer and where it was in the library. However, I cannot remove it from my top menu bar and every so often I get a message asking me to update it. Please tell me how I can get rid go the icon in the top menu bar for malwarebytes. This app seemed to be good for only a limited period without an upgrade and I really do not need it any more and do not want to pay for an upgrade. Thanks.
Again thanks so much for your prompt reply and patience. Unfortunately, "Find Any File" was not able to locate "name contains malwarebytes." See below, yet the icon still remains in the top tool bar and cannot be removed by dragging. See arrow.
Thanks "tygb" and John Galt. I do not want the app malwarebytes. I installed it per a suggestion of an apple support staff to get rid of what she thought was malware. It didn't work and subsequently I found an on-line video with step by step instructions clearing out various folders and files that worked great. So after that I wanted to get rid of the malwarebytes app, since it only lasts for 30 days without an annual subscription, anyway. But as John Galt noted, sometimes it is far harder to get rid of an app then to download it. Again, thanks for all the help and suggestions. About the only thing I am getting now is a pop-up menu asking me to again install new and improved version of malwarebytes. See below. I have no idea of how to get rid of that pop-up (it is not in Safari), so I guess I will just live with it, declining the update opportunity, and keep following the suggestions of OT using yet a new app downloaded at OT's suggestion "Find Any File" to clear any file found containing the name "malwarebytes."
Assuming you did NOT uninstall correctly such that you deleted the malwarebytes package under the Applications folder, you might also need to delete any malwarebytes-related files in the following folders:
See CT's answer for the uninstall. Since the application doesn't automatically update it definitions of adware/malware unless you have the paid version, you would need to download it again if required.
Anyway I tried again without success to Command Drag the icon off the top menu bar into the screen. However, I was able to successfully drag it into the trash and this time it did disappear from the menu bar. Again thanks for staying with me.
Follow the directions in CT's post, which was the very first one on this topic. You have to use the uninstaller to remove the software. Dragging the app to the trash does not do the job. If you don't have the disk image containing the installer and uninstaller anymore, go to the Malwarebytes website and download it again, then run the uninstaller.
this was great, its finally gone. For some reason that got installed without me even noticing it and all of a sudden a lot of weird adds start appearing. from my point of view its just really toxic...
Thanks but this did not work for me. I went to library, but there were no malwarebytes entered there. I did delete all new and unrecognized launch agents. There was no launch daemons file. I restarted and went to library application support. Again no mawarebytes, but deleted all new and unrecognized. (In both cases these were jake cares). Emptied trash. It's still there. Thoughts? Thanks. James
