A lot of you have expressed interest in helping me make my tree
sculpture, but don't know how to knit or crochet. Well, now's your
chance to help.
I'm in contact with one of the main donation managers at Goodwill. He
just received a HUGE donation of yarn.. we're talking like 80
palettes. Yes, palettes, like the kind forklifts move. It's leftover
yarn from major industrial manufacturers like the Gap and Banana
Republic.
Originally, I had planned to cover my entire tree in yarn, trunk,
limbs and all, but I never thought I'd have access to that much yarn.
So, until know, I've been begrudgingly resigned to doing some other
kind of artistic treatment to the trunk. None of my current ideas are
very satisfactory to me, and the prospect of being able to see through
my original idea for this tree is exciting!
But the yarn is not *quite* no strings attached (hahahahah i couldn't
resist that one). Goodwill needs help sorting and labeling this yarn,
so they can get it out to their stores and sell it. They've agreed to
let me take whatever yarn I want in exchange for a day of helping
sorting this yarn. You can also have whatever yarn you want, too! My
contact at Goodwill has basically said that i can fill my van with
yarn for a day's work of sorting the stuff. I think this is a very,
very fair trade! And we'd be helping Goodwill. My contact there
seems really cool and is really into the idea of supporting Burning
Man artists. So it's all for a good cause as well!
So, July 14. You down?!?!?! I'll bake some snacks and order a pizza
for you! The palettes are stored on Treasure Island, of all places.
Not sure of the when's and where's just yet, but let me know if you're
interested and I'll keep you in the loop. It will probably be an
early day to late afternoon kinda activity.
This is a very cool gift from the universe to my project, and I'd be
forever grateful to any of you who can make it happen with me. Again,
I'm amazed at what unexpected and fortuitous doors open for you when
you're on the right track, doing what you love.
One last P.S. and then I'll shut up: my doorbell just rang.. it's the
mailman with more leaves! Thanks Victoria from Virginia (EXQUISITE
work!!!), Kiki from San Carlos (what EXCITING yarn!!!) and Judith from
Tennessee (the are PERFECT, thank you so much!!!). These are all just
gorgeous!
A good day for the tree! Hope your day is perfect as well,
Thanks all,
josie
