The Autodesk Inventor Design Checker is a productivity solution used to give the designer insight into the adherence of company or customer standards for the product being designed. Live Checking gives instant feedback to the user, as well as ensure a high level of quality for the entire design process.

Users can use pre-defined checks or define custom checks with iLogic scripts to perform design checking. Executing the on-demand checking will update the design checker results, or enabling the live-checking will enable users to get the real-time feedback from the design checker during design process. The Design Checker Results Tree Browser allows users to interactively edit the objects with failed checks, and a Design Checker Results Report can show all the passed and failed check results, and allow users to export the report to excel, word or pdf, or print the report.

We use this on the new designs. It keeps the basic modelstandards throughout the design phase. One question for the components that have not initially been designed with the Design Checker:Is it possible to have the Design Checker iterate through an entire assembly (assembly prior to the implementation of the Design Checker) and give the checker results for the assembly components? The only result that we get for these assemblies is "No Design Checter Results". Then we need to open each individual part in the assembly to run the Check.

Congratulations to the team of Andy Chau, Maxwell Stolarz, Max Quinn, and Roberto Santos of Los Angeles Pierce College, crowned the Grand Prize winner of the Design Competition. Autodesk awarded the team $900 for their outstanding design. Fabricating the crutches will be the next step in this journey.

Design Web Format (DWF) is a file format developed by Autodesk for the efficient distribution and communication of rich design data to anyone who needs to view, review, or print design files. Because DWF files are highly compressed, they are smaller and faster to transmit than design files, without the overhead associated with complex CAD drawings (or the management of external links and dependencies). With DWF functionality, publishers of design data can limit the specific design data and plot styles to only what they want recipients to see and can publish multisheet drawing sets from multiple AutoCAD drawings in a single DWF file. They can also publish 3D models from most Autodesk design applications.

DWF is a file format developed by Autodesk for representing design data in a manner that is independent of the original application software, hardware, and operating system used to create that design data. A DWF file can describe design data containing any combination of text, graphics, and images in a device independent and resolution independent format. These files can be one sheet or multiple sheets, very simple or extremely complex with a rich use of fonts, graphics, color, and images. The format also includes intelligent metadata that captures the design intent of the data being represented.

Autodesk Design Review is a free viewing application that enables all members of the project team to easily view, measure, markup and print designs shared electronically. Built around the DWF file format, Design Review enables users to view and print complex 2D and 3D drawings, maps, and models published from Autodesk design applications or from the DWF Writer.

Also, all Markups and Annotations created in Design Review can be imported to the original file when using Autodesk applications, such as AutoCAD, Inventor or Revit Architectural. This feature makes DWF the ideal format for design reviewing and collaboration processes.

Autodesk DWF Writer software publishes the DWF format from CAD applications that do not offer built-in DWF publishing, such as Bentley MicroStation or Dassault's Solidworks software. Autodesk DWF Writer is a Windows printer driver that converts files to DWF format. The result is that the entire project team can standardize on a common file format to exchange and review designs and sheet sets, at no additional cost.

PDF is an internationally recognized open file format developed by Adobe Systems to allow electronic exchange of any printable document, independent of the source application software, hardware and operating system. PDF/E is a subset of v1.6 of the PDF specification specifically designed for engineering use.

Autodesk Design Review is a free viewing application that enables all members of the project team to easily view, measure, markup, and print designs shared electronically. Built around the DWF file format, Design Review enables users to view and print complex 2D and 3D drawings, maps, and models published from Autodesk design applications or from the DWF Writer. DWF (Design Web Format) is an open, published, and secure file that enables you to combine and publish 2D and 3Ddesign data and share it with others. Much like Adobe PDF files, DWF files are no more alterable than printed paper copies. However, unlike PDF files, DWF files retain detailed design information and scale, which makes them more suitable for architects, engineers, and designers.

When DWF drawings are marked up in Autodesk Design Review, you can then view these markups in AutoCAD Architecture and make changes to your drawings. How does this work? When you want to submit designs for review, you can publish a DWF file from AutoCAD Architecture and then send it to the reviewer of your designs. The reviewer can open the DWF file in Autodesk Design Review, mark up the file electronically, and then send it back to you. When you open the marked up DWF file in AutoCAD Architecture, you can view the redline markups in the AutoCAD Architecture drawing area, turn them off, make your changes, and republish the DWF file to send out for another review. Doing all this electronically with AutoCAD Architecture and Autodesk Design Review will greatly decrease time normally spent in collaboration with others.

Once your design is complete in AutoCAD Architecture, it is time to publish the drawings for review. In order for electronic markups created in Autodesk Design Review to align with the original drawing geometry, it is important not to change elements in your drawing file that can affect this alignment after you have published the DWF file for review. These elements include the following:

Now that you have received markups, it is time to review them so corrections can be made. To view the markups in your designs, load the markup set into the Markup Set Manager. A markup set is a group of markups contained within a single DWF file. To open the Markup Set Manager, select the View tab on the ribbon in AutoCAD Architecture, then click the Markup Set Manager button on the Palettes panel. This brings up the Markup Set Manager palette (see Figure 4).

For measuring, marking up, and annotating 2D and 3D without using the original software that produced them, easy-to-use application Autodesk Design Review can be used as it is both money and time saver. With every Autodesk design product, this easy-to-use tool is attached, and time is also saved in the approval and mark up processes. With the help of this tool, specifications and images can be combined in a single file; designers can comment and change the initial CAD file as with Autodesk design products, round-trip mark up integration is followed. DWG files can be plotted, viewed and published.

Moreover, for managing change orders in engineering, powerful status checking can be used. Some very exciting features are available in Autodesk Design Reviews for both 3D and 2D designs, mark up and viewing features are available, sectioning, pull apart and animation like navigation tools can be used for accessing data. Data in DWF files can be located very easily and swiftly that includes street names on maps and building components.

Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) certifications are designed for industry professionals who possess advanced skills and can solve complex challenges in workflow and design. The experience needed to earn an ACP certification typically comes from having worked with the software on a regular basis in a professional environment for at least 2 years, equivalent to approximately 400 hours (minimum) - 1,200 hours (recommended) of real-world Autodesk software experience.
