I'm probably overlooking something really obvious, but is there a way to set a radial symmetry constraint about a center in the sketch environment? I am aware there is a "Circle Pattern" tool, but I would like to have the radial symmetry so all features are changed at the same time.
WelshPixie draws amazing mandala images. Inspired me to do something in Linea Sketch, a drawing app definedby its constraints. No symmetry tools. A focused approach to color palettes. Brushes limited to a couplepencils, a couple pens. Five layers, no more and no less. Stuff like that.
This video will show you how to use the Symmetric sketch tool to constrain two geometries of the same type to be symmetric relative to a line. First, pre-select the line or the linear edge. Next, select the two other geometries of similar type to each other. In this case, I'm going to select both arcs. Click the Symmetry tool on the sketch toolbar and the two arcs are symmetrical to each other. If instead I select the end points of the arc, and then select the linear edge, and then click the symmetry tool on the sketch toolbar, the two points will be symmetric with each other.
Selecting the arcs and the points sequentially one after the other and using the symmetry tool at each step will create two symmetrical arcs. For example, select the two arcs and the line. Click the symmetry tool. Then select the points and the line, and click the Symmetry tool again, and you have two symmetrical arcs.
When using many of the tools (line, circle, arc, etc.), there is no easy way to draw using symmetry. It would be very useful to have tools that can draw symmetrically over a center line (a mirror image), and have it be one solid line/circle/arc rather than broken segments. Seems like this could easily be accomplished with a modifier key. I use SU primarily for guitar design/building, and much of what I do involves placing objects symmetrically along a center line, and although it seems easy enough to divide by 2, it becomes a hassle when working in .001 of a mm. Thank you.
The symmetry tool is a really unique feature to SketchBook Pro! It cuts your drawing time in half, which allows you to create all sorts of neat designs fast!
I especially love drawing clothing with the symmetry tools. Here's how you might do that.
In SketchBook Pro we have two different lines of symmetry to use- X and Y.
They can be accessed from the top toolbar.
If the top toolbar is hidden, you can go to Window -> Toolbar to bring it up.
Y symmetry will mirror your strokes as you draw vertically. Click this button to activate it:
It's perfect for drawing clothing and faces!
The X symmetry will mirror your strokes horizontally. Click this button to activate it:
I might use this to create a neat reflection, like in water!
My sketch is cool, but I want nice lines.
I'll duplicate the sketch, and use a careful hand to add nice lines.
To duplicate a layer, you'll need to make sure the Layer Editor is open. You can access it by selecting Windows -> Layer Editor. It looks like this:
hover over the layer and click in the circle to bring up the pop-up menu.
Hold and drag over the option that says "Duplicate."
I'm using a black pencil brush and going around the edges of the artwork to make the lines are smooth and nice.
I'm constantly going back and forth- erasing and re-drawing to keep the lines clean.
This part of the process takes a long time for me, which is why the symmetry tool makes it faster!
I didn't think I'd be able to get into or start using ( and understand or enjoy ) a new program. I've used Photoshop for years and it's what I usually use for graphics. But I did use this and have been using it for the past week and I LOVE It. The symmetry tool is my favorite - the features of the program are what I like. Not so many that you are lost in confusion - but the ones that are there are extremely useful and time saving..I am hooked on it...I say give it a try! :)
A longer answer is: You can achieve symmetry of vector layers by using Symbols in Designer but you will need to start creating the design from scratch with vector layers.

Thank you so much for showing me about symbols! I definitely think this can replace what I attempted to do by using the pixel persona to draw the symmetry and then use them as guides to put vectors on top of. But I've used Symbols before in Sketch, so this is a delightful discovery.
Use to draw one side of an object or scene and have it mirrored to the other side of the line of symmetry (Y-axis). Remember, since the axis always appears at the center of the canvas, you may need to move it.
Use Vertical Symmetry to draw part of an image and have it reflected either above or below the line of symmetry (X-axis). Remember, since the axis always appears at the center of the canvas, you may need to move it.
To set the number of radial segments, either tap-drag the slider or enter a numeric value in the option box in the symmetry toolbar. Remember, since the axis always appears at the center of the canvas, you may need to move it and/or rotate the axis. Check out the next section for more information.
This information is enough for us to sketch the graph. However, since the question asks us to find the axis of symmetry - essentially the x-coordinate of the turning point - we might as well do this before sketching.
Studying symmetry in art clarifies the idea of symmetry for students and gives them a deeper understanding of symmetry. Studying symmetry also helps us become better artists because we often intend to draw a subject symmetrical, but it ends up lopsided. Taking time to practice drawing symmetrical subjects will help artists gain the ability to draw balanced (not lopsided) objects. Symmetry drawing exercises also helps us all become better artists as we look for what is really there instead of what we think should be there.
Photoshop lets you paint symmetrically while using the Paint Brush, Pencil, and Eraser tools. While using these tools, click the butterfly icon () in the Options bar. Choose from the several available types of symmetry - Vertical, Horizontal, Dual Axis, Diagonal, Wavy, Circle, Spiral, Parallel Lines, Radial, Mandala.
Constraints in creo parametric is a set of useful tools when it comes out to make some conditional or restrictive sketching. Although Creo parametric offers constraints during sketching but manual constraint become useful when we have to make some complex geometry. There are total nine (9) types of constraints which are listed, with there expected symbols (will appear in sketching window), below:
This is quit useful constraint and can make life much easier while working in Creo parametric. To apply this constraint we need to draw a center line about which we will make our sketch symmetrical. First make some sketch, for our ease make a rectangle then create a center line. After this select the symmetry constraint option. Now select the center line by clicking on it and then select the two points on rectangle, which are highlighted, to make them symmetrical about the center line.
I'm a Software Developer myself, so I get this mentality, but it's been on the upcoming features list for well over a year at this point from what others have told me (I started using in October 2022 and it's been on the list since then). If true, it's just unethical and irresponsible. It would be better to just surprise folks when they know they're getting ready to release the feature. What they're currently doing doesn't match anyone's common definition of "upcoming" so it seems like a marketing ploy because they know it's a feature everyone wants. I use all the Adobe CS apps for my creative needs, but I'm seriously considering a switch over to procreate for this one feature alone. It's just painful to do symmetry drawings otherwise (e.g., daggers, glasses, patterns).
To create symmetrical designs in Adobe Fresco without a dedicated symmetry tool, the most common method is to create one half of your design, duplicate it, and then manually flip and align it using the transform or mirror tools. This approach allows you to achieve symmetrical results, but it can be somewhat time-consuming and may require manual adjustments to ensure perfect symmetry.
Something else you might notice is the greyish dashed line connecting the upper left line to the upper right line. This dashed line is showing that the two solid lines are colinear. This can be helpful in more complicated sketches.
Some things you will notice about the image above is that there are a lot of coincident relations. Coincident relations are usually added by SolidWorks automatically when you begin a base point on an entity that is already in the sketch. You should also observe that coincident relations look a lot like midpoint relations, so to be sure of which is which, you can hover over the relation to get the pop-up identifier.
To create this sketch, the two center rectangles and a circle placed at the origin to the diameter of the middle arcs shown were drawn. Power trim was used to leave just the upper and lower center arcs. A quick way to fully define the four holes at the corners were to create the fillets before the holes so that the center of the holes could be placed on the center point of the fillets, resulting in automatic merging of the points.
You will notice that when the fillet tool is used, it just makes arcs and adds a lot of relations. For this reason, heavy use of the sketch fillet or chamfer tool can lead to slower running of the software. This is primary argument for why many designers choose to stay away from the sketch fillet/chamfer tool altogether and use the feature fillet/chamfer tool instead. The same also goes for linear and circular sketch patterns. The feature versions of these tools are much less taxing on the software. These are tools we will learn in future chapters.
