We will have a water polo meeting tonight at the West Boise YMCA from about 6PM to 6:30 to discuss future plans for water polo in the Treasure Valley, followed by our usual open play until about 8 or 8:30.  If you're interested in being more involved, this is a good opportunity to be in the know.  The meeting will likely be in the Tri room just behind the hot tub (if the Tri room is unavailable, we'll be in the room next to the reception desk).

Hope to see you there!

Hi Ash ,
Sorry I missed the meeting; I was working last night. Would you be able to pass on any relevant information?

Thanks,
Mike Moreno

To update those interested, these were the topics that were discussed on Tuesday:

General High School & Masters Updates:
  • Carrie Anderson is going to research and recommend a better online communication tool that we can use to distribute information.  One possibility would be to have our own website.
  • We discussed possibly travelling to tournaments this year.  One possibility is the Rigby lake tournament, July 22 - 23, with a nearby camp site.
  • There is a new Greater Boise Aquatic Centre pool that will be opening at the end of 2022 / beginning of 2023, located at 3575 S Findley Ave in Southeast Boise.  We're excited to have more pool time and locations available in the valley!
High School Water Polo Updates:
  • Zoran is the current offseason High School coach, with Laura Cardoza as assistant coach.  Inquiries about the High School offseason program should be directed to them.
  • There was discussion about starting an introductory High School program in September, before the High School season officially begins.  Coaches & dates TBD.
  • The High School water polo season will start after the Idaho State Swimming Championships, typically held in early November, and the season will run until January.
    • Mark Stevenson, Zoran, & Steve Koga will coach the boys teams again this season.
    • Nick Candau & Laura Cardoza will coach the girls teams again this season.
  • We will likely be hosting the Idaho State water polo tournament again at the West Boise YMCA in January.
  • We need to do a better job of spreading information to the High Schools and Middle Schools to generate interest.  Bryan handed out flyers to High Schools last year, but they didn't seem to get out to the students.
  • Our goal is to have multiple High School water polo teams in the Treasure Valley within a few years.
Masters Water Polo Updates:
  • If we want to host a Masters water polo tournament this year (we have typically hosted them in June), we need some volunteers to head up the effort.
  • The outdoor Natatorium outdoor pool will be open again for the summer starting on May 27 until August 16.  Ash will contact the Boise Parks & Rec to ask about summer pool time.
    • It looks like the pool hours have been pushed back according to the website, with the pool opening every day at 1PM.  (If we're able to get pool time, it'll likely be Saturdays from 11:30AM to 1PM.)
Next meeting will be Tuesday, May 17.
