Purchasing a car is not always the best experience. The haggling, the terms, and salespeople can make it a difficult process for any customer. There are so many variables. The price of the car you are purchasing, the trade in price, the length of the loan, the interest rate on the loan, the extended warranty etc. etc. etc.

The service process is not that easy either. The guy I was dealing with was not the most knowledgeable, the price was quite expensive, the breakdown was a surprise, and for all intents and purposes, the only thing I got was somebody turned off a light for me and charged me $355.00 to do it! I mean think about it, my car ran fine, but I had a light on.

Most used car managers have the same reservations because they are buying the same thing, trust, and most service departments do a lousy job of selling themselves, and what it is they are doing.

I am not trying to minimize the selling of a car, that is a difficult task, but in the end the customer leaves with something tangible. A service advisor needs to sell him/herself. The product cannot normally be experienced with any of the senses. It is a sale built completely on trust.

People want to trust the person they are doing business with. They come in hoping to meet someone who is knowledgeable and trained. Someone who will make them believe that when they spend their hard earned money on is a worthwhile investment, spent at a reputable business.

The facts are, according to NADA, regular service customers are 17 times more likely to buy their next vehicle from their servicing dealership. And an increase in customer retention rates of just 5% improves dealership profits by 35%.

Really enjoy this book. Easy read can be completed in one sitting. Read it again every so often just to keep the concepts fresh. Great content on customer interactions in general not just applicable to the service lane!

Officially, the birth date of the Army Warrant Officer Corps is 9 July 1918, when Congress established the Army Mine Planter Service as part of the Coast Artillery. This action assured that exclusively Army personnel manned the vessels. The Army opened a school to train their mariners at Fort Monroe, Virginia, commanded by an officer who had graduated from the Naval Academy. The official color of the warrant officer corps is brown, as warrant officers in the Mine Planter Service wore simple bands of brown cloth on their uniform sleeves as their insignia of rank. Warrant officers served in four positions aboard the vessels: masters, mates, chief engineers and assistant engineers. Masters wore four bands. Deck officers also wore an embroidered brown fouled anchor above the braid, while engineer officers wore an embroidered brown three-bladed propeller in a similar position.
