Transportation Visualization in the News

DOT’s safety data visualization challenge lands on two finalists

Department of Transportation challenge seeking new data visualization tools for transportation safety data has chosen two finalists — Ford Motor Co. and the University of Central Florida. Both will now proceed to stage three of the Solving for Safety challenge to build out their prototypes into full, working visualization dashboards and vie for a piece of the $350,000 prize pot. DOT hopes data analysis can uncover previously unseen patterns and lead to the creation of better traffic safety policy.

Neighborland Makes Public Engagement Tool for Transportation

Whether because of a history of failed projects, a skepticism about lofty goals or a disconnect between citizens and officials, state and local governments sometimes find it hard to both include and persuade the public when planning a major project. Parham’s community engagement platform and its new product, Neighborland for Transportation Agencies, purports to do just that.

The Importance of Color in Data Visualizations

Colors are an effective medium for communicating meaning. In data visualization, color sets the tone and enforces a message for the underlying visual display. It creates a certain atmosphere and can turn an unassuming visualization into an emotion-filled data story.
