Hello Members and Friends of the Transportation Issues in Major US Cities Committee (ABE30),

An update from the committee leadership as we get ready to shift into high gear for TRB. A quick rundown of what’s in this email:

  1. Next committee meeting on December 3rd at 3pm EST
  2. Planning ahead for meetings next year -- a quick poll, response due by Friday, October 25th
  3. Annual meeting updates: workshop alert and registration
  4. Present your work to the committee

1. We will be holding one last committee conference call this year on December 3rd at 3pm EST. A reminder will be sent closer to the call, but put it on your calendar now. Call-in information:

Number: 209.255.1000
Access Code: 570643#

2. Planning ahead for future meetings, we have an opportunity to hold our midyear meeting at TRB’s asset management conference to be held April 15-18 in Miami, Florida. We know that conference may be of interest to our members and friends. Please take this short poll by October 25th indicating your preference.

3. It is time to start preparing for TRB in January! We have quite a presence at the Annual Meeting this year (thanks to our Annual Meeting Organizers Jamie Parks, Aimee Jefferson, and Fred Dock).  As you start to think about travel plans, we want you to be aware of two workshops on Sunday, January 12th that may be of interest (though unfortunately they are at the same time):

  • Designing Urban Streets for the 21st Century, sponsored by our committee, 9am-12pm
  • Light Rail Transit Innovations and Urban Insertion, 9am-12pm

Registration is open for TRB and early bird registration ends on Nov. 30th. Sign up early and start making your travel plans. We hope to see you there.

We had 16 papers this year for the committee, the highest in years.  We recommended 3 for presentation in a paper session, 7 more additionally in a poster session, and 2 for publication (thanks to Karina Ricks for coordinating). We have 2 great podium sessions also planned. More details to follow on our sponsored sessions and the committee meeting once the program is finalized.

4. Would you like to give a quick presentation to the committee about work you are doing that might be of interest to others? Preparing for our committee meeting in January, we are gauging interest in having a series of short (2-5 minutes) presentations about what is going on around the urban research world. This could be in a shortened Pecha Kucha format potentially.  Contact Ema Yamamoto if you are interested.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Dock
ABE30 Committee Communications Chair
