Hello Members and Friends of the TRB Transportation Issues in Major Cities Committee,

A few fall updates for the committee. The session planning for the Annual Meeting is underway and we should have final details and session times soon. Once the schedule is posted, we will get information out to encourage you to hold those times. In the meantime, there are plenty of things going on:

1. NACTO Camp this Friday (Oct. 30th)
Our committee is proposing a session on how to better coordinate research with universities and your city the "unconference" following the NACTO Designing Cities Conference in Austin, TX. If you will be at Camp, please plan to join and share your thoughts on this topic!
More information here: http://nacto.org/event/designing-cities-2015-nacto-camp/

2. Pecha Kucha at Annual Meeting - send ideas by Nov. 15th
Thinking ahead to the annual meeting, we are proposing to have several Pecha Kucha-style presentations (20 slides, 20 seconds each) during our committee meeting. These presentations are meant to be non-traditional, insightful, and fun! If you would like to propose a presentation, please email Ema by November 15.

3. Next Webinar Dec. 10th: Future Directions for Multimodal Research and Practice
Join us for the next webinar in our series - Multimodality in Major Cities: Urban Success Stories. This webinar will focus on the most recent technological developments that facilitate multimodal transportation. The webinar will provide knowledge on current research advancements in urban multimodal transportation, and the challenges of overcoming the gap between research and practice.

Date: Thursday, December 10, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm (Eastern Time)
Details and registration information: http://www.trb.org/Calendar/Blurbs/173239.aspx

4. Transportation Camp before TRB Annual Meeting (Jan. 9th)
Lastly, as you are making your annual meeting travel plans, please consider coming in a day early for Transportation Camp, the unconference before the conference. Held at George Mason University in nearby Arlington (Metro-accessible!), this annual event brings together transportation professionals, technologists, and others interested in the intersection of urban transportation and technology.
More information (and eventually registration) is here: http://transportationcamp.org/events/dc-2016/

Happy Fall to all, and I hope you have great transportation/city-themed costumes for Halloween. Send pictures and we'll add a post to our soon-to-be-revamped website!

Hello all,

A couple quick additions I forgot to include in today's email:

5. Continuing our camp theme, Transportation Camp NYC is coming up on November 14th. Details here: http://transportationcamp.org/events/nyc-2015/

6. Volunteers needed for workshop: our committee is co-sponsoring a workshop at the Annual Meeting on Protected Bicycle Facilities. We need a few volunteers to take notes at the tables when the workshop moves to discussing research needs statements. The workshop will be on Sunday, January 10th from 1:30-5pm. Note taking would be at the end of the session, so be sure you can stay the whole time, but also know you won't be writing for that full period. Please email Ema if you are willing to assist.
