Hello Members and Friends of the Major Cities Committee,

With summer steaming along (and paper and trust fund deadlines looming), it's time for some committee updates:

1. Papers are due! If you want to present at the 2016 TRB Annual Meeting, get your papers in by August 1st (submit here). Our committee sponsored 4 paper calls (search ABE30 to get them to come up) and we'd love to see our own friends responding. The topics are:
  • Working Across Boundaries: Next Generation Collaboration for Effective City Transportation
  • Understanding and Measuring Mode-Shift
  • Truck Safety in Urban Areas
  • An Evidence-Based Approach to Vision Zero
2. Our next committee meeting will be August 11th, 3-4pm ET. Agenda and call-in information to follow soon. Along with updates, we will be talking about how a paper becomes a session.

3. With papers coming due, paper review season will be on us shortly. Thank you to everyone who agreed to review. If you are, please plan to join one of the TRB webinars on how to review papers coming up in August. Registration is not yet open, but they will be 2-3pm ET on Wednesday, August 12th and Tuesday, August 18th. We'll send another reminder on these once registration opens. (Forgot to take the earlier survey on reviewing? We'll still take your offer to help! Contact Eric Sundquist, er...@ssti.us, or Deborah Lightman, ligh...@mmm.ca.)

4. The 9th Annual Competition and Call for Communications Concepts with John and Jane Q. Public is seeking nominations. This year's theme is "Communicating Transportation Needs and Issues to Targeted Populations." Nominations are due July 28th. More information can be found here (including the link for nominations).

5. A recording of our latest webinar on Measuring Multimodal Transportation has been posted online. And if you're already looking forward to the next one, it will be on September 16 on the topic of  "Multimodality in Major Cities: Urban Success Stories

Happy frantic last days of paper writing!
Stephanie
