Subject: Development of FAF 4.0 and establishment of FAF Power Users’ Forum

Dear colleagues,

The Federal Highway Administration’s Freight Analysis Framework (FAF) is a tool to draw a national picture of commodity movement and freight transportation trends. For successful delivery of the next version, FAF4.0, by the end of 2015, it needs support from you and others in the freight community.  Please share this announcement with DOTs, MPOs, and other partners.

As we start on the path to designing and implementing FAF 4.0, we hope you’ll be able to take a few minutes right now and let us know how you’d like to help.    We currently have the following opportunities:

FAF 4.0 Listening Sessions (November and December 2013)

·         Help define the primary purposes and end uses of FAF4;

·         Help identify specific technical issues of FAF that need addressing in 4.0; and

·         Help examine the feasibility and desirability of proposed improvements to the FAF.

Stakeholder Technical Working Group (Ongoing in 2014)

·         Provide feedback on draft FAF4 work products

In addition to opportunities related specifically to FAF4, we are starting a general quarterly FAF Power Users’ Forum for users to discuss how they are using FAF and issues they are encountering

If you are interested in any of these opportunities please send a note to F...@dot.gov and let us know

1.       In which of these activities you are interested in; and

2.       Your suggestions about other people to involve in any of these activities.

We look forward to hearing from you by Monday, 4 November 2013.

Best wishes,

Peter Bang
