I noted yesterday that the boat was identified as a Great Harbor on the list.

It looks too 'tall' to be a Great Harbor.

One article identified the boat as being named "Steel Away", and described 8
foot waves over the stern.

In any event, glad all on board were safely rescued.

It was a Florida Bay Coaster by Benford and NOT a Great Harbour trawler.

Are Florida Bay Coasters made of steel?

None of the comments on this sinking seem to add up, including 8 ft waves in
that stretch of the Magothy. It's hard to imagine over a 3 - 4 ft wave
building up in that stretch of water. I've seen 7 - 8 ft waves at the mouth
of the Potomac after 2 days of winds over 30 kts, but the rest of the Bay
and certainly the Magothy River simply doesn't have the combination of fetch
and depth to build to 8 ft waves.

Someone was going to write to Jay Benford and request an explanation of the
sinking. Did Mr Benford ever reply?

The 8' waves were in the Chesapeake Bay just outside of the mouth of the
Magothy River. I have experienced larger waves in an 11:30 AM thunderstorm at
the same location. Fortunately I was in a 36' ketch at the time. The mouth
of the Magothy is relatively open until one passes R "2" in the river, where
things calm down. Bob Siegel Annapolis

Mr. Benford has responded several times on the Passagemark message boards.
The boat was closer to Sandy Point Lighthouse and then sank moving northwest
towards Baltimore Light/Magothy.
