I have 3 Elegance Raritan toilets.

The toilet works well and has a grinder built in. There are two different
toilet heights, one for platform and one for mounting on deck. There is a
computer brain box that also turns the grinder and the Electro Scan on at
the same time. Follow the wiring diagram it might take you a time to two as
the wiring diagram is not real clear. The push button supplied with the
toilet fails due to amps load after about two months of use. I suggest you
get the timer button from Galley Maid (green, ) which will allow the toilet
to run for 10 seconds before shutting down, thus providing adequate water
flow. Otherwise you have to hold the button down during the flush period

The Electro Scan. You can attach more than one toilet to one electro scan,
but then you work the plate a lot. I also suggest you add a brine tank. The
new Elect S are so sensitive that when my boat is docked within a mile or
less from a blue water inlet the amps will not be sufficient to achieve
purification. That's where the brine tank will help. The Electro Scan are
amp / power hogs. If the amp start to drop off and the red light remains on
you can clean them and the plates. Kill the power to the plates, and add
about 2 cups of muriatic acid.. THE PLATES MUST BE OFF. Let it sit for about
2 hrs, flush the system thoroughly out and then turn the plates back on.

Problem areas:

The push button will fail, as all of mine did twice

The plates do not last as long as they want you to think. The plates cost
about $350 to buy new one, unless your still under warranty which is only
one year.

You can also send in the computer chip and Raritan will reset the flush
timers on it. It's in the computer box and is easily pulled out.

The is two one way rubber valves on the toilet. If one toilet is bubbling
then the valves need replacement. It's not too hard to do but very time
consuming.

Sorry for the delay in helping I am in the Bahamas and needed a good
internet connection

I have had no issues with my elegance toilet and no real issues with the electro scan unit. Nothing has failed on either, and it has worked well with one caveat. As mentioned, if you are near fresh water or even in brackish, your unit will warn or error due to low salt content. Salt water feed is almost mandated in this situation. 2 gallon will not do the job. I bought a spare to replace the plates when (not if) they go.

Good to hear of someone else with an electroscan. Apart from an initial
hiccup when the macerator jammed, we have had no problem. We have a
freshwater flush, so had to get a salt tank. It needs refilled each week.
The expense is minimal, but the bags of salt pellets weigh a lot and
getting them to the boat is a hassle. is there an alternative?

A few observations...

Someone unfamiliar with the Elegance toilet and the ElectroScan could
draw the erroneous conclusion that the ElectroScan is integral to the
Elegance. They are two entirely separate devices that CAN be installed
to work in tandem with the Elegance or any other toilet.

> The Electro Scan. You can attach more than one toilet to one electro scan,

You can connect TWO toilets to a single ES provided that the treatment
unit is with 6' of both toilets. IF one toilet is significantly further
that from it, it should not be connected to the ES because waste cannot
get from the toilet to the treatment unit in a reasonable flush
time...and it has to get there to be treated!

> but then you work the plate a lot.

The motors in the ES, LS and PS are not designed for continuous
duty...nor can two toilets be flushed at once. 3 treatment cycles in a
row is all it can handle...then it has to "rest" for at least 15 minutes
to let the motors cool off.

I don't know why Tom should have a problem with the flush button. He's
the first I've ever heard of who has. Otoh, he's also the first person
I've heard from who didn't opt for either the 3 way "Momentary Flush" or
the 4 way "Smart Flush Option." I would NOT recommend putting a timer
on it to allow flush water to run for 10 seconds because that much flush
water will exceed the maximum 1.5 gal/flush that the ElectroScan,
LectraSan or PuraSan can accept, causing it to overflow untreated waste
(and also fill up a holding tank with flush water. (My advice: stay with
the factory settings for both the Elegance and the ElectroScan.

Adding water to the bowl ahead of solids will greatly reduce the amount
of flush water needed to rinse the bowl (this is true for ANY toilet).
That's easy to do if either of the option flush systems is insalled:
just push the "only add water" button...but with the single button
flush, it's necessary to use a cup from the sink. And btw, Raritan
doesn't mention it, but the 3 way "momentary flush" (cost: about $60)
can be added to ANY toilet that uses PRESSURIZED FRESH water...but NOT
with sea water toilets.

The Elegance is actually designed to use onboard pressurized FRESH
water...although, with the addition of a remote intake pump, it can use
sea water. In fact, if the optional "Sea Fresh System" is added, the
Elegance can switch between fresh water and sea water at will. However,
unless the toilet is installed to use sea water, if an ElectroScan or
Lectra/San is installed, it's necessary to add salt. But the brine tank
is the wrong salt tank for use with a toilet that uses pressurized flush
water. This is the correct salt tank for use with the Elegance
connected to am ElectroScan:
http://www.raritaneng.com/pdf_files/electroscan/L289v0306.pdf It uses
solar salt (up to 10 pounds of it) and should only require refilling
about every 800 flushes.

HOwever there is a simpler solution that works with any toilet: just add
2 coffee measures (4 tablespoons) of table salt to EVERY flush. This
makes much more sense than the expense and maintenance of a salt tank
for those who have sea water toilets and only need to add salt
occasionally when wandering into fresh or brackish water...but I know a
number of people who'd rather keep a Rubber Maid box of salt in the head
to use with every flush than install the salt tank.

Electrode packs will last up to 10 years if properly maintained and
operated. Three things will shorten their lives: low voltage, low salt,
too MUCH salt. Warm waters have a much high mineral content than colder
waters, requiring much more frequent cleaning of the electrodes than the
6 months recommended in owners manual. Waiting till a light comes on to
tell you to do it is like waiting till the engine starts to smoke to
change the oil. There are specific instructions in the owners manaul for
cleaning the electrode pack using a muratic acid solution. Following
them will greatly extend the life the electrode pack.

You'll find all the info about the ElectroScan, along with links to salt
tanks installation/operation instructions and the owners manuals here:

Can't you use Sun Salt (I'm not sure what you mean by "salt pellets")? I
purchase 40 pound bags of Sun Salt (I don't think that's a brand, just a
type) from Home Depot or Ace Hardware and then rebag it into plastic
kitty-litter containers for use in our two ElectroSans. I've also found
Sun Salt in 20 pound bags which I don't even bother rebagging. Keep a
couple in the engine room.

We're generally in brackish or totally ocean water so don't use the
ElectroSans very often, only when we're "up a river," so don't use as
much as you indicate, but perhaps Sun Salt would last you longer if
you're currently using some other product.

I made a major error in the portion of my reply quoted below. We use the
ElectroSan all the time (except when in no-discharge zones where we use
holding tanks) but do not have to add SALT very often! Certainly didn't
want to leave the wrong impression.
