Cruising down the channel (the miserable mile too!) and my engine controls started flashing.
The next thing I know, I'm in gear with the throttles up and no engines control whatsoever!
I can steer, but nothing else. Moving to the upper helm, the controls work in manual. Whew!

Anybody else dealt with Glendinning EEC control issues? These are 15 years old, twin lever control with 4 buttons (take, sync, warm, slow)

I had one friend who this happened to last summer but he could never locate the source of the problem. I also heard it happened to a friends friend, and it took three attempts to solve the issue....I'm trying to track down some information there.

I did power down the unit and upon restart it seemed to function. I'll know more tomorrow when I pull the hook and head back to the docks.

thanks,
Jim

Jim,

My boat has the electronic Glendinning engine controls with manual backup,
and it sounds as if that's what you have. I've been very satisfied with the
system. I've found the Glendinning documentation which came with my
system to be excellent--and I've used the troubleshooting suggestions there
successfully a couple of times.

If you don't have the documentation, step one (do this at anchor or in a
marina--not underway!) is to try re-setting the Glendinning system by
removing all power going to the electronic Glendinning control box which is
likely in your engine room. Most Glendinning systems like this are set up
with power from two sources, usually the starting battery and the house
battery. Be sure BOTH are removed. Doing that effectively reboots the
system. When the power is removed, you'll hear a loud click when the
solenoid disengages. Then when you restore power you'll hear the same loud
click from the solenoid engaging.

If that doesn't solve your problem, try calling Glendinning and (1) ask
that a copy of the documentation be emailed to you and (2) ask for
troubleshooting help. I've found their tech support for this system to be
excellent. Main number is 843-399-6146. The most knowledgeable guy I've
found is Rick Parish and his cell (last time I used it a couple of years
ago) is 561-523-4188.

Good luck,

Thanks Milt, good info.

I think that my problem was high voltage. I had a new alternator putting out over 15 volts into one battery. Apparently a bad regulator. I had disconnected the battery, but not the alternator wire.

I will repost if it happens again and was something different.
