All the wiring schematics I have for Westerbeke generators show an alternator. But mine has no alternator, and no real way to install one—no bracket or way to attach to the block. I wouldn’t mind adding an alternator, but it’s too complicated.

I would think there should be a way to get a 12-volt charge out of the generator itself, but I can’t see an obvious way. Maybe someone knows how?

Ron assuming you have and Alternator on that Genset the belt may be to
Loose or when it us running
Put your DVM Across the battery terminals and see if battery is getting a charge from the Alternator

Just get a small battery charger, say 20a or so, and connect its AC
input to the generator's AC output using a suitable circuit breaker. If
your generator has a panel between the output and transfer gear, that's
the right place for the breaker, otherwise I would use an in-line model
inside the generator enclosure itself as near to the stator junction box
as practical.

Sean,

I use a Victron product that converts AC to DC at a constant voltage.

I use a gel battery and so far , since 2011, the constant voltage seems to
have given a new meaning to the words on the case that say "long life."
