Can anyone tell me where the sweet spot is on a Cat 3208? If I remember right
it is about 1850 RPM, am I right?

Dave

Depends on what your pushing.....Mine burns a bit over 6 GPH at 1800 RPM
(that's for both engines)...Max continuous is 2400 if your propped to reach
2800 Max

That fuel flow infers only about 55-60HP per engine. Seems low to me. Do
you have a fuel flow system? What kind (I want one and have yet to launch
the project)? Jim

Dave I found 2200 on my 3208's was about the best but it was a heavy 42ft
Cheoy lee.

Dave:
It depends on which 3208 you have.
N/A, Turbo, Turbo after-cooled, and HP rating.
On Palmetto Moon a 44,000 lb.
semi displacement, Ocean Alexander.
I have twin 3208 NA 210 hp Cats.
In over 4 years and 12,000 miles of cruising.
I get 4 GPH / 2 MPG @ 1600-1650 RPM
This equates to adv. of 8.3 - 8.6 Knots.
Any increase in of 50 RPM's sees a
substantial decrease MPG and increase in GPH.
At 1900 RPM's usage is 10 GPH and 0.5 MPG
and the speed only increases to 9.1 knots

Hope this helps

Good morning all:

My wife and I have just signed on to work abroad for 1 or 2 years. Our
8-year old 60-ft steel trawler is currently docked in Fort Lauderdale.
Having pushed back our cruising plans, we are now looking into the option of
hauling out our boat and keeping it on the hard during the period we will be
away; and we would take the opportunity to get the bottom and entire hull
repainted and get other work done during this time.

We would appreciate recommendations from list members on good places to
store the boat (& places to avoid). Our top priorities are:

1. ocean access (single screw, 4 1/2 feet draft, bow & stern thrusters)
2. reliable hauling equipment (boat weighs about 100,000 lbs)
2. safe, secure insured location, with reasonable long-term storage rates;
4. good quality & value yard work; and no problem doing work ourselves.

We have been thinking of south east Florida, but are open to other ideas.

Thank you

Two of the lowest-cost storage yards in southern Florida are Indiantown
Marina and Glades Boat Storage, both on the Okeechobee Waterway. Indiantown
is about 20 miles west of Stuart, and is accessibe to boats with masts to
55' and draft of at least 6', maybe more depending on when their entrance
was last dredged. Glades, which is about 4 miles east of the Ortona locks
(20 miles west of the Lake), is accessible to masts of 49' coming from the
east, and a bit higher coming from the west, and any draft that can cross
the Lake from the east, or about 8' from the west.

Both yards allow work by the owner, and most work in both places is by boat
owners. For specific work you want to hire done, inquire first, as both
yards have rather limited capabilities that seem to change year to year.
Outside contractors are charged a daily rate of about $15 to work at Glades;
I don't know the present arrangement at Indiantown.
