Now this procedure works all the time. However, I am only given a one year license. I was informed that once the year has expired I can simply request another license and I would be given another serial number that would renew for another year. I was skeptical of this.....with reason. Here I am, one year later with my first product that has expired. I proceeded to log in with my usual account and select the same product that I had previously and it gives me the exact same serial number. If I try to register that serial number again it informs me that the serial number has expired.
When I reached out to Autodesk chat support we noticed that when I log onto the education site I get a message that says "Your educational access to Autodesk products is valid through Invalid Date." We are assuming that this is the issue. They have forwarded my ticket over to a second level support.
I was just wondering if anyone knows if that is most likely the reason or if they think it is something else? Is my procedure for downloading, registering and licensing the college's Autodesk product the proper way of doing things?
Sadly, I was expecting this issue. When I received a license for 1 year I asked support what will happen once it expires and they said you can simply request another serial number for another year. I didn't believe them and well ... here we are.....

Autodesk is a global leader in design and make software for the architecture, engineering, construction, media and entertainment, and manufacturing industries. If you have ever driven a high-performance car, admired a towering skyscraper, used a smartphone or watched a great film, chances are you have experienced what millions of Autodesk customers have built with our software.
We recently converted to subscription licensing. To get started, I added my first user following the video I was sent. To make things easy, I gave her access to all products and services in our contract. When I logged in to Autodesk from her laptop using her Autodesk account, the only product she has listed under Products & Services is 'Storage'.
Based on what I gave her she should be seeing a lot more including AutoCAD Architecture, which is what she needs. I went ahead and signed in with my credentials (contract admin) and downloaded and installed AutoCad Arch 2018 in her machine. I entered our new serial number and the product Activated ok. It then prompted for a login so I user her Autodesk login and it retuned a screen that says "contract your administrator to request permission for this product'.
Do you have network licensing or Single-User? If you have Network licensing, then the user wouldn't see products as the Contract Manager and the Software Coordinator are the only users allow to see and download the media.
Single user. The reason I posted this questions is, as stated, I did give her access. From my admin screen her user account has access to all products because I gave her access to all products. When she logged in , she didn't see anything other than what I stated in my original post. Since this was the first user I worked with since converting over to subscription I was somewhat flying blind on how it all worked.
It's supposed to be easy and handling a large number of users like you are will become a thing of the past once completed. I had 85 user accounts which I setup 2 years ago, and I only need to update them every once in a while when people leave the company or new products are added.
All licenses have their flaws, atleast when a single user license is assigned you have 30 days until you must resync and depending on seat allowances even allow for home use for training and development, on a network you need to have good policy and infrastructure else you can get scuppered, plus networks like every other licenses have their pros like easy access if on the network etc...
1. I am going to send out a global email to our company to inquire who is actively using AutoDesk products (sadly we have lost track). For those that are, I will instruct them to follow a link I will provide to go and create an Autodesk account and then to let me know by reply email when they have completed that step and what product(s) they are currently using. For 95% this will be AutoCAD but we also have a 1/2 dozen or so Revit users.. Most, if not all, will not have an Autodesk account b/c they never really needed one. IT always handled installs and activations.
2. As I receive the emails back, I will create the user accounts on my admin portal and give them access to the product(s). I will then send them the new serial numbers by email along with step-by-step instructions on how to change the serial number in their existing product. I will also tell them that after they activate with the new serial number, they are going to be prompted for their newly created AutoDesk credentils, so to be sure not to skip the step of creating those.
Answer: Most users will stay with the same as they currently have. We may have a handful of users running AutoCAD 2016 that were not available recently when we upgraded to AutoCAD 2018. No plans to do anything with 2019 at this time.
Products installed through a suite must be uninstalled and then installed again using the single product installation. The end user will not be able to switch the serial # (license reset) on those products and re-activate through the named account.
All other 2017 or newer products (not installed through the suit) can be reset by performing a license reset per this article. For products older than the 2017 version you must uninstall it and reinstall it. However keep in mind, around the April/May time of this year, the 2016 product line will fall off the radar and you will not be able to use that version anymore. So if you rely heavy on Revit 2016 you need to start making a transition plan to move forward with a newer version of the product.
In addition there's no need to provide your end user's with serial #s via email, they can retrieve that information once you create a user account under subscription and they log into their Autodesk Account.
Answer for #1: There's no need to have the users create new accounts because when you create their accounts within your Autodesk Account site, they will receive an email. They will need to use the forgot password link, then create a password.
Answer for #2: Again, there's no need to create the user accounts per my message above. When you create the user accounts and they change their password, when they log into their account, they'll see the serial numbers.
I agree this can be challenging. To make it easier for you, you should consider assignments in batches like create all of the user accounts for AutoCAD first, then assign all of them the AutoCAD licenses, then create the users for Revit and assign them the Revit licenses. From Active Directory, you can export the list of users in the name; email format to paste into the Autodesk Account site. That would save you a ton of time.
