Ihave been looking for a bitcrusher that works in audacity and is easy to use but the ones i have found either no longer work or cannot save with the effect still applied, does anyone know where i could find one that works?
This is a recreation of the ACTUAL steps that Kygo took to make his classic pluck. First, I opened ReFX Nexus 4, loaded up the preset "Attack Lead 3," turned off the built-in delay and reverb, then I routed it to a mixer track, where I loaded Guitar Rig 6. From there, I loaded the "3D Mangler" preset, and adjusted the knobs as follows:
Res: 0.45
Rate: 0.46
Mod Depth 1: 0.13
Reverb: 0.63
Then I EQed out the lower frequencies, and made it brighter.
Finally I added dblue Crusher and made a nice bitcrushing effect at level 3 sample reduction.
Here are two examples of two different bitcrusher plug-ins on YouTube: ToneBooster's Time Machine & Illformed's dBlue Crusher. Some DAW's come with a bitchrusher effect, or you could use a seperate project, render the audio to 8 bit and import it in the project where you want to useit.
Yes ring modulation but, having made several experiments in this vein, I don't believe it's purely that. I think the original carrier wave may have been mixed in with the dialog along with ring modulation. Either that or multiple passes of ring modulation because the sound cues I'm hearing don't sound like straight-up dialog run through a digital ring modulator.
