Bondsmen in Trouble After Alleged Breaking and Entering
GREENSBORO, NC – According to the N.C. Department of Insurance, several bondsmen have been arrested in recent weeks for allegedly breaking into area homes while trying to capture felons. At least two of the bondsmen have turned themselves into authorities. So far, seven bondsmen have been charged.

Court Case Deems Motel Rooms May be Searched
LITTLE ROCK, AR – A recent court case, Kimberly Ann Webb v. Arkansas, in the Court of Appeals of Arkansas, examined the authority of police and bondsmen to search a motel room. Webb was facing two drug offenses when she tried to have evidence against her suppressed, alleging that her motel room was searched illegally.

Man Claims Non-Return of Bail Money Amounts to Theft
CENTRAL POINT, OR – Kent Gutches is seeking legal help against the Jackson County Circuit Court system, after the court system has refused to return $100,000 in bail money. Gutches posted the money as a bail bond for his son and he claims the court’s refusal to return the money amounts to “theft.”

Disparities in Bail Raise Questions and Eyebrows
MADISON, MS – A panel of experts is offering their views on bail bonds to the Mississippi Supreme Court after a number of cases have raised questions about the way bond is set. For example, in a recent case, a judge decided on a $1.5 million bond for a man accused of attempted (and unsuccessful) car jacking.
