Hello all, newbe here. My wife and I are looking at a 2002 TS Select
that we have both fell in love with. Seems now, when we look at other
brands/models, we're just not happy, we keep going back to the TS. I
keep thinking that it is too much motorhome. By this I mean, it has a
500HP engine and it is a huge coach. We've spend a couple of hours
setting in it and talking about how much we like it. I drove it and
it drives great, however, it is the only class A coach I have ever
driven so I can't really compare it to anything else. I'm concerned
about the fuel mileage, the dealer advised it would get between 7 and
9 MPG, is this correct? If so that is not good. I thought most
coaches ranged around 9-11 MPG. Is the 500 hp overkill and a fuel
hog?

I've read every post on this forum and there is some great info. This
coach is about $40,000.00 more than what we originally planned to
spend but we know that it is a high end coach, and did I mention "we
love it".

My concerns are;

1. I fear the 500 hp Cummins will coast much more to repair and
maintain as compaired to a 300-350 Cummins. Due to the sheer size of
this coach, is everything much more expensive to repair compared to
other coaches?

2. I have read a lot on this forum about frame structural problems,
"the cross-bracing" issue and issues with the windshields popping out.

3. I've been quoted, approx $4000.00 for an extended warranty, that
is a lot of money. Is it worth buying the warranty with this coach?

Are there any issues I should be worried about this coach.

Thank you in advance.

Is the 2002 Select a 41 or 45 ft? I have a 2002 41 ft. Select and it has been a wonderful coach. If you are interested it is for sale. It has 30,000 miles.    jerry...@sbcglobal.net

Morris, I think all of us feel the same way about our TS coaches. The
others pale in comparison to the way the Select has been built and the
wood treatments are so unlike the competition.

I have the 500HP on a 45 ft. unit and it carries the load very well.
With a 41 ft. , I'd guess you'd get 7.5 to 8 mpg, depending on the
speeds you travel. But realistically, to expect 9-11 is just not
going to happen except with a very small rig, perhaps. Remember, the
depreciation is the MOST expensive component in the cost of a MH and
the fuel mileage and cost really paled in comparison. So buy what you
love and enjoy!

As for a warranty, I'd do a thorough inspection BEFORE you buy and
forget the warranty as most of us probably feel it's not a great
value.

Thank you for the replies, we're still tossing it around. I wish I
could just pull the trigger and buy the TS. Should not be a no-
brainer, I like it and the most important thing; my wife likes it!

Good morning Morris, I have an 02 40DS02 with a 370 Cummins. I had
the X-bracing done about 2 years ago and have since put over 12k on it
and haven't had anyproblems with the windshields and the X=bracing has
helped with stability and front tireware. I get between 9 and 10
miles per gallon fuel milage but I drive at 65 miph. As the old
saying goes .. "If I twist the ear back on the mule I get about 7 at
70." So the majority of the miles is done at 60-65. As for the
extended warrenty I do have and extended warrenty and it has more
than paid fir itself a few of times. I had to replace the plasma
screen in the living room at the tune of about $1200, the starter at
about $850, the the smart wheel and computer at about $900, and the
satellite dish at about $1800 and several othe little odds and ends
dealing with the coach suspension and ride hight adjustment. I look
at the warrenty as an "Insurance Policy". I guess if you have the
money available to set in a bank account waiting to be used then you
can benifit by not having the extended warrenty, but if you are like
me I don't have the extra 3-6k to "invest wisely" hoping that
something won't break on the coach. JMHO

I do agree that the craftmanship in the coach is second to none.

George, I sent you an pvt email but I don't think it went through for
some reason. I wanted to ask you about your extended warranty.

thanks

Morris
