Hi Maggie,

Unfortunately there haven't been a great many posts to the group while you've been a member, but over the years there has been some really great information sent to the list, and Ronda has featured many times.

May I suggest that you use this link below, which will do a search of the group for posts about Ronda and the parador?

You can then perhaps ask questions directly related to any of those rpevious posts, and hopeful the original writer will be able to answer. In particular, I note that the search brings up this fabulous article about Ronda by Mac, who posted a number of such travelogues a few years ago:

Hope this helps!

best wishes, Roger.

Hi Folks: I’ve been following the discussions for the last 8 months or so. My name is Maggie and I live in Ottawa, Canada. My husband and I will be in Spain in September. Has anyone stayed at the Parador in Ronda? As we leave Madrid we plan to rent a car for our Andalusian excursion. Are we better to rent from here or once there? Any favourite car rental agencies?

Thanks for your thoughts,

Maggie

Dear Maggie:

I visited Andalusia in 2010. We got a car in Seville and drove through Ronda on our way to Granada. From Granada we drove via Cordova up to Madrid hoping to stop in Toledo. It took longer than expected despite there being no extensive traffic. If I were to do this trip again, (which was quite enjoyable, by the way) I would do the same route but drop my car of in Cordova, taking a train to Toledo and then up to Madrid. I'm sorry we missed Toledo. I did not find the drive from Madrid to Cordova to be very interesting. The segment from Granada to Cordova was picturesque, as was the drive from Seville to Ronda. A great idea to stay in Ronda, it is laid back and has great restaurants.

Sincerely,

Rob

I've stayed in Ronda. We found the parador too expensive (except for a
drink) and stayed at a local hotel. It was Hotel Espaola or Hostal
Espaola located between the central plaza and the parador. However, if
I were traveling in that area of Spain again, I would prefer to go back
to Grazalema and stay there. Ronda is nice, interesting, we had a great
meal overlooking the canyon, got to see the bloody shirt in the bull
ring museum, and all that, but Grazalema is special. It's nestled in a
limestone canyon, has pinsapos nearby, Roman relics incorporated into
town buildings, great architectural walking tour, the food must have
been good but I don't remember. It's also the only city I've been to
where the women carry the Virgin during Semana Santa. Some radical
gender politics going on there.
