I was in Spain in October 2012 a week hiking in Valencia with HF Holidays, a week touring in and around Madrid independently, and then a week with Diverbo participating in an English immersion program for Spaniards.  We would like to return to Spain and we are looking for a community to spend part of the winter, maybe January and/or February.  Any ideas where that might be?  We would like a community where we could be without a car, where there are other English speakers, and where the weather would be pleasant (no snow or ice).  Any suggestions for place?  Leads on reasonable rentals?

Wish I could help you Linda but I don't know English-speakers in
Spain. But, please keep me in mind when you have found them and send
info about them. I travel to Spain every summer and stay on the coast
of Murcia (in the southeast) and visit with my cousins, who spend the
summers there. Certainly keep us informed as to what you have found
and what you plan to do.....

I think you should be looking at the coastal areas. The Murica and Almeria coasts are probably the warmest during Winter, and the areas around Málaga and/or the Costa Tropical should be OK too, although maybe a little cooler. How about the Canaries Islands? Although there you'll probably want to have a car.

There are normally English speaking communities around most southern coastal areas, although I don't know of any specifically.

Roger.

Hi Everyone
I'm still "in" the loop and will be returning to Almeria at the weekend - can't wait.
Sorry I don't post often these days - but I read everything eagerly and join in when I can.
Linda - I can recommend the coast of Almeria for its mild winter climate and there is certainly a lot of English people.
In fact its often difficult to find anyone who doesn't automatically speak English to you.
I think you could manage without a car in Mojacar Playa. It suffers a bit from the "out-of-season" feeling that resorts suffer.
There are prettier places (e.g Agua Amarga) but I think a car would be needed there.
