Hi John,

I agree…Jardin du Luxembourg is our favorite too, and when we took our oldest granddaughter to Paris she loved the Marionette show and the playground.  I enjoy watching the older men play boules.  Just beautiful, and we always try to stay nearby.  It seems to me that there are now signs in Jardin du Luxembourg about not sitting on the grass, but I still see people do it, and no one says anything. I think sitting on the grass is allowed in Place des Vosges and Parc Monceau.  That is a beautiful park, a short walk from the Champs Elysees near the Musée Jacquemart-André. Along with a stop in their tearoom, it makes for a nice Sunday afternoon stroll.

We visit Jardin de Luxembourg probably every two or three days when we're in Paris; it is the best place for just sitting and feeling as if we're part of Paris. The first time we went there, we took sandwiches and a bottle of wine, sat on the grass and enjoyed our lunch. Later, we were appalled to learn that in France, one does not sit on the grass!, much less eat on it. Then, even later, we learned that, for some crazy reason, that rule does not apply in Luxembourg Gardens; there, it's okay to sit on the grass (though almost no one does it). So I have no idea whether we committed a faux-pas. We haven't tried that again!
