Hello fellow travelers,
This August I will be departing for Spain Bilboa to Study Abroad. I am
21 years old and doing a little bit of research. I was wondering if
anyone had any knowledge about the Alcohol/drug laws in Bilboa or
Spain in general?

Hi,

In a nutshell, you have to be 18 to buy cigarettes and drink acohol, and obviously hard drugs are illegal at any age.

Regarding other substances, this may be useful:

Hi,

I am currently finalizing my hotel booking. So far, I found the top recommended place (according to my budget) is Cruz Sol Hostel. I am looking for reasonable places very close to downtown to avoid taking any transportation.

So what do you think of the place, is it recommended or shall I go for another one?

Thanks,

Hi Marwa,

Certainly it's a very central location, within walking distance of all the major sights (Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Royal Palace, Gran Vía, etc.)

I don't know the hostel itself, but I'm sure it's a great choice.

Roger.

Hello Marwa

Your enquiries seem to have migrated onto another topic!

TBH, you are very unlikely to find anyone here who has stayed in any
particular hostal in Madrid - there are so many that the laws of
chance almost eliminate it! But your choice could not be more
central, and it says it has been recently restored, so if the price is
OK for you, I would go for it. BTW, note the spelling of 'hostal' -
these are not 'hostels', or backpacker places, but private hotels with
limited facilities but usually perfectly acceptable. Just don't
expect room service!

¡Buenos viajes!

Hi Marwa,

If you haven’t already, you might want to check out the Cruz Sol Hostel on www.tripadvisor.com or www.eurocheapo.com.  If it’s the Cruz Sol Hostel located at 6 Pl de Santa Cruz in Madrid, the ratings seem fine, depending on your needs.  It’s an editor’s pick, with an 8.1 guest rating on eurocheapo, and it has acceptable to good reviews on tripadvisor.  From what I read, most people thought it was “fine” for their needs, basic but clean.

Sandy

I used to stay at the Cruz Sol (a nice elderly couple ran it for years), but then a younger man bought it (a few years ago)....renovated it, with a significant increase in price   Good bargain hostals are more difficult to find.  More recently I've stayed at the Lido on Echegaray just off the Puerta del Sol.  But now I avoid Madrid and head out to the coast of Murcia where my cousins spend the summers before going to Orense province in Galicia for the fall.   That is my plan again this August.
