Drive into Myanmar with their own vehicles

One of my friend want to visit Myanmar with their own car .

Do you know any rules and regulation for that .

My name is Lavern and i am from Malaysia... I want to do a road trip next year January 28 2014 into Myanmar via Mae Sot border and Myawaddy. Its a small group of u with 4 Malaysian registered vehicles which belongs to each individual driving it. Previously i had driven into Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand and we do this road trip yearly. Next year we want to drive into Myanmar but i think the rules are different here...I would want to spend close to 10days  on this road trip in Myanmar and can u please advise me how do you charge and what are the rules we have to follow...Hope to hear from you soon...

Dear friends,

                   To drive in and visit in Myanmar, you need a special permission for driving with your own car, to get this special permission you have to contact a travel agent from Myanmar and they will arrange for that. According to the current rules and regulations, you cannot visit as FIT tourist, you can visit as package tour. And authority concern dose not allow without leading car from Myanmar travel company. I have many experiences to arrange a caravan tour with a friend of Thailand-Mr. Somsak Burapapipath. And so I would like to suggest you to find out friends who are interested to  visit with an own car and make a group. In this way, you can get cheaper price.

One of the instruction of UMTA issued a few weeks ago that can entry inside to Myanmar but when do touring  could not use that vehicle may rent vehicle in this country.

Dear friends,

                     I know about that but it will effect on June next year. But UMTA should explain the nature of caravan tour to the authority concern. Near future Myanmar will be the transit area for the trading with bordering countries. If 'they' have security problem with the caravan tour, they use modern technology or if 'they' have  intention to use local vehicles, it is narrow minded one.

Very interesting! I have not done it myself yet but I could imagine what a lot of red tape you would have to go through with such bureaucracy. Even though, as Ko San Hlaing, pointed out, Myanmar is going to be a transit country very soon, our clever, smart and always incredibly efficient officials seem quite at ease since we have not heard about any rules and regulations being discussed or issued. Hopefully our country will get benefits NOT BANDITS from those transitions!
