With the difficult birth of AirAsia India firmly settled, the Malaysia based no frills airline will now cast its expansive eyes on new markets in Myanmar and Cambodia.
AirAsia Bhd group CEO Tan Sri Dr Tony Fernandes said the two countries, with growing economies, are ripe for the kind of low cost travel that is provided by AirAsia to add to its growing regional influence in Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and India.
“Myanmar’s economy is opening up to foreign investments, which directly boost tourism and its need for greater connectivity.

Fernandes said China is the ultimate goal for his airline to operate as a local carrier, but the country’s regulations do not permit foreign carriers at the moment.
“If the Chinese government amends their policies just like how India opened up its aviation sector, we will definitely go in,” he said.
