It was extremely hot and humid day when
I had to go to Thanlyan. That came along with a discussion with my tour leader,
Maria debating whether it is worth a visit Thanlyan. There is always a kind of
expectation from tourists going to Thanlyan, Portuguese town with "remains
of castles." That is wrong!
Finally we decided to go see the place. It is so fortunate that I got a driver
today who was born in Thanlyan and know the location. So I asked him what else we
can offer rather than municipal market, pagoda and town itself. We spotted this
place finally, a nunnery school where it holds hundred of nuns for
educational purposes and hundreds of girls from nearby villages come and study
in school season.
We are led by an assistant nun to Daw Sandar,
the chief of Nunnery. It was the time of examination for kids. We made a tour
around places of school and nearby. It is a quiet and peaceful place.
Upon our departure after spending a good 2 hours, eventually, all the kids came
in line together singing "English" and "Burmese" poems to
greet us.
This is just amazing and a scene of a day in a life at Myanmar nunnery. All my clients
were satisfied and recommended this place. Next time, if you are going to visit
Thanlyan, look for the following address;-
Khaymaryarma Nunnery School and Education center, Aung Chan Thar Ward (1),
Thanlyan. They have contact numbers,
they are 09 509 6119, or 056 – 220 31. Donations are welcome.
