FOREIGNERS travelling overland from Thailand will be allowed to enter Myanmar at three border crossings without having to return through the same checkpoint, the Information Ministry has announced.

The crossings will be allowed through the checkpoints at Tachilek, Myawaddy and Kawthaung, the ministry said. (I'D LIKE TO KNOW IT IS CORRECT OR MORE CHECKPOINTS?????)

Officials said the change was expected to take effect by the end of the

year, but did not elaborate.
Travel industry sources welcomed the move, saying that giving foreigners the option of being able to enter and leave the country through different border crossings was expected to encourage more visitors to use land checkpoints.

About 80 percent of Myanmar is open to tourism, but there are still some areas which remain off limits to foreign travellers.

THANKS,

YAMIN HTIN AUNG

Thai-Myanmar border crossings to become official border gates

Published on Tuesday, 27 August 2013 20:06 by Eleven Myanmar Media

Thai-Myanmar border gates will be designated as official international border gates as of August 28 this year, according to Myanmar’s Ministry of Immigration and Population.
This will allow Thai citizens and foreign tourists with valid passports to enter Myanmar by land and depart from other official gateways including Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay.
A bilateral agreement between the two countries will create official gates at Tarchileik-Mae Sai, Myawady-Mae Sot, Kawthaung-Ranong and Htee Khee-Sunaron.
No official changes have yet been made concerning length of stay, renewal of visa, and visa fees. And visa-on-arrival will still not be available at the border gates due to the current security situation, officials said.
Visitors can visit anywhere in the country except restricted areas released in this January by Ministry of Home Affairs. The list of the restricted areas can be acquired at any of the border gates.

We met the responsible person from immigration at Myawaddy who confirmed that entry and exit can be different.

Regarding Yamin Htin Aung's Post-  info of Ko Aye Min Oo is appreciated.

Total 7 int'l ports are being designated ( 3  air access- Yangon, Mandalay , Mawlamyaing and 4 land border crossing - Tachileik- Mae Sai / Myawaddy- Mae Sot / Kaw Thaung-Ranong and Htee Khee - Sunaron up to date.

Same time notification 77/2003 by home affair is being practised, therefore who involved with foreigners need to have clearly on their rationales.

a few account-
I had asked to MOHT  for entering Myawaddy - through Kawkareik up to Hpa-an  as outside of Kawkareik is restricted( need prior permission). { the correspondent mail of me to MOHT is enclosed in this post that will tell clearly }

Relatively - my curiosity for land access Tachileik - Kyaing Tong-Taungyi
Tachileik-Kyaing Tong- Taungyi is part of AH2 - 281 miles 4 furlong of total 500 miles
( Tachileik- Kyaing Tong 102 miles / Kyaing Tong- Namsan 208 mi/ 4 fur / Namsan- Taungyi  73 miles)
It is already known Tachileik to Kyaing Tong land route can be used by foreigners by private or public access.
I'm not sure Kyaing Tong to Taungyi land access can be used by foreigner as the area "Takaw" east of Salween is highly watched out. ( other way there is  air access kyaing Tong to Heho)

Anyway after legal opportunity entering land borders will have many different options comming in and out of Myanmar by foreigners.
As far as I know, depend on progress. more land border entries may become int'l port.

I would like to have a post " Concordance on notification 77/2003 with land border entry "
Let me request Ko Aye Min Oo @ Sonny Aye Min Oo as Dean. Sure be volunteer for your mates in industry.

                           Share knowledge - Make strength.
