New Cambodia airline to take-off this month

A new startup airline has got the green light from Cambodia's Civil Aviation Authority to start operations this month.

Bassaka Air is funded by Chinese investment and will initially run twice weekly flights to Siem Reap and Phnom Penh from China.

'Bassaka's main business thrust is to attract mainland Chinese travelers to Cambodia in order to contribute to developing Cambodia's tourism industry,' a company statement said.

The company, which has partnered with China International Travel Services, aims to take off for the first time by mid-October.

"The upcoming flights will contribute to expanding air transport services and developing tourism industry in Cambodia," said Keo Sivorn, director general of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Last month the CAA granted an air operator's license to Apsara International Air, also a Cambodian-Chinese joint venture, which will begin flights later his year.
