Hello again,

RE: 2006 40DSO4

I am having trouble getting my entry door to latch. It must be
firmly closed but even when it is pulled hard it will often not latch.
It is as if the latch is not coming in far enough to catch the pin it
goes over. It doesn't seem that there is an adjustment of the latch or
pin location that I can see. Anyone else having this problem or have
any suggestions?
Thanks............. WALT

Walt, the guys at the factory told me that was just a characteristic
of that door. I've also looked for a place to adjust it too, but no
luck. Sure hate to have to slam it all the time.

I am told that there is a tool (brace) used to warp the poorly engineered door back into place.

Walt,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I need to know if you have a PTL
door or a Nappanee door. I am guessing that it is a PTL Door by your
description to this point.

Bishop,

It has a white sticker with blue writing that says "Nappannee
Window 05 252079"

Walt,
You are in luck. That is the easy door striker to adjust. On the door
frame, there are 6 hex head screws around the striker bolt. If you
loosen those screws and bring the entire plate outward, away from the
interior of the motorhome, that will allow for a smoother latch. In
the fully outward position is the manufacturers installation position.
I'll post a pictures to explain myself.

Bishop, I was going to try moving the plate outward, but am concerned
it'll result in leakage while running down the road at hwy. speeds.
Should this be a concern?

On the contrary, the door will be able to engage into the second latch
postion and provide a firmer seal. Once you have adjusted the plate
outward enough to achieve that second latch, then you can turn up the
air solenoid to increase the seal on the leading edge of the door. The
air solenoid is located on the front firewall to the right of the
generator.

Air solenoid? I thought that thing was to adjust the step slide
travel...unless I'm thinking about a different set point? Will the
direction of increase be shown on the solenoid? Thanks, Bishop

Bishop, I checked on the PORT side of the firewall and see an air
pressure regulator mounted to it just forward of the accelerator. No
solenoid. Is that the one you're referring to? Mine seems to be
frozen and even a pr. of channel locks won't budge it....any
suggestions?

Can you provide a picture of the area so that I can be sure that we
are on the same page?

OK, thanks, Bishop. It's up in the files section under "Air
Regulator"

Do you have a pneumatic step slide cover? Can you get picture to the
right of that regulator? I am interested in the two air lines that
pass behind the regulator to the right.

Yes, it is pneumatic. So that might be the regulator? How do I get
it to rotate? WD-40?

I just posted another pic of where those two while lines connect to.

At first glance, I would guess that the air solenoid valve on the left
hand side is the valve that you are interested in. But in order to be
sure follow the double set of white air lines. If you can trace them
to the upper left of the firewall then you have the correct air
solenoid valve. Adjusting the valve is very simple. The white knobs on
the bottom of the valve open the ports within the valve. On side is
for the engaging of the latch and the other will retract the latch.
There is a silver jam nut above the white knob that will lock the
adjustment into place. As for the regulator, Have you tried pulling up
on the black portion of the knob? The normal position of the knob in
down in the locked position. If it is in the up position and it still
won't move then I would be concerned about the condition of the
regulator.

Bishop,

Please post the pictures. In the case of my door, the plate on the
door itself APPEARS to have moved back, away from the interior of the
MH and this seems to be the resaon it is not catching the latch pin.
In fact, the black plastic piece that covers the lock and handle
mechanism on the inside of the door is deformed inward along othe edge
of the door where the latch plate is attached.

Thanks...WALT
