Like so many others, my Weldex rear view screen flips on and off and
is unreliable. Has anyone actually found a way to kep the screen on
all the time and not blank out?

John,
It is Weldex stand that the system is not at fault. We have sent many
of the systems back and they power them up on their bench, and the
systems perfoms as to spec. Weldex sent to engineers to Travel Supreme
to assess the installation to determine if that could be the problem.
It was not. The fact of the matter is that the system is not hardy
enough for the application. We have tried the whole gambit of
solutions:
1.) Independent power source with filter and diode protection
2.) Independent ground source with filter and diode protection
3.) Fully solder connections
4.) Shielded cable run to the rear camera to prevent EMI.

The systems just aren't hardy enough for their application.
We have installed the Sony Rearview systems with great success. The
only draw back is the lose of motion for the rear camera.

I have recently heard about incompatible sine wave / electronics situations.  The inverter circuit that many of these electronics are using disrupt some electronics even when plugged into shore power because they are routed via the inverter???  Perhaps?

Richard,
That indeed has been a problem for some of the 110 volt AC
electronics, the Weldex Camera system is 12 volt DC. Therefore, it
would not suffer any ill effects because DC Voltage is no a sign wave.
In non sine wave, or modulated sine wave inverters, it is a square
wave. This causes issues with electronics such as inexpensive clocks
that the 60Hz cycles to keep time. I have seen issues with HP
computers and RCA DirecTV receivers.

Good data Bishop,

I was a DTV (originally only RCA receivers) dealer and a HP computer enthusiast due to superior support.  Always on battery supported laptops until the latest and greatest touch screen.  I have added the UPS (uninterrupted Power Supply) as I am spoiled with the battery support, eliminating power flux etc.  Not knowing the works of a UPS, I assume and hope that the power passes through and not bi passes at all times, and cleans the wave, so to speak.

Bishop,

I'm replaceing my old camera and monitor with a voyager system. What
would be the best way to run the cable from the monitor in the front
of the coach to the camera in the back coach,

Thanks
Viper

Viper,
Run the cable up the drivers a pillar. From there snake it throught to
the driver front speaker. From there you can enter the AC ductwork.
You can follow the AC ducts to the rear of the coach and from there
into the back cap. Its a pain, but its the simplest way to go.

I can prove that the Weldex LCD display is at fault, not the camera,
not the cabling. So, I found a Voyager system that has pretty well
the same features as the Weldex. The head looks much more robust.
But, I don't want to try to replace the entire cable run as Bishop
suggest, too much of a pain in the rear. So, I'm designing and making
an adapter that will allow the Voyager head to plug into the installed
system (side view cameras, rear camera pan support, speaker, all
functions are supported).

I don't know if I can pull it off, but in my prior life my company
designed and built all kinds of LCD driven equipment, so I do have
some background that may be useful. I bought the Voyager head for
$175 so it may even be cost effective.

I expect to complete this attempt in December and I will keep you
updated in case it works (and even if it doesn't).

I also have the same problems since day 1. Mine worked great for 900
miles, then after being parked for a month its out again. I unplugged
the camera connection and back in. It worked again till the next time.
It would be nice if weldex would step up and admit there is a problem.
Most are out of warranty anyway. Thanks for letting me vent this.
Maybe slabman can find a fix Dave

Mine has always worked well, but I better knock on wood. Dave, it you
buy an Alante with a fireplace, you'll probably get a camera that
works. Will make the BOSS happier, too!

Thanks slabman everything works better when the boss is happy I
can't get my side cameras to work in auto anymore. It used to come on
in reverse and the reverse lines don't come on. I have tried turning
the options on, but nothing seems to work. sometimes the rear camera
movement doesn't work. Does this sound familiar to anyone Thanks Dave

I just had my Weldex monitor replaced and now the rear camera won't move for me either. I thought it was because we were in Indiana with sub 30 temperatures but now that we're back in Fl. it still doesn't move.
POS IMHO!

One thing I have found to work sometimes is to unplug the rear camera
and then screw it back together?????? Dave
