Secondary Transfer for GRT pupils

Dear all,
I wonder if you could help?
As transition to secondary school for Traveller pupils remains an issue in Cheshire West and Chester, I have been tasked with finding some information about any areas where GRT pupils are transferring to secondary education. We were hoping to be able to share this information with our secondary schools to see if it can be replicated.
I appreciate transfer and retention is a national issue, but if you could share any case studies where transition/retention has been successful in your areas, I’d would be most grateful.

Hi Antoinette,
These attachments mention in them some good practice examples re. the transfer from primary to secondary.
Here in Bexley we have secondary schools come in and talk to the students and we have visits and even sample lessons in the main secondary schools to encourage good transition.
Also, having a named person who checks that GRT pupils all fill in their secondary transfer forms on time is vital I think – and to offer help if necessary in filling them out.
This same someone can also let parents know about open days at secondary school etc.
All these sort of practices help.
