Just to make you aware that the consultation period for the new OFSTED framework closes on Friday 5th April.

As you know previous framework specifically highlighted children from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller heritage as one of several vulnerable groups. In  2012, the Ministerial Working Group on tackling inequalities experienced by Gypsies and Travellers, stated: “Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils are specifically highlighted as a vulnerable group in the revised Ofsted framework, ensuring that school inspections will pay particular attention to their progress, attainment and attendance”.

The reference to GRT children and other groups with protected characteristics as a vulnerable group has been removed from the proposed new OSTED framework and this is a concern, especially given the findings of the Government’s recent Race Disparity Audit. At a recent Northern Co-ordinators Traveller Education meeting, it was asked if as many of us as possible could respond to the consultation.

Hello Antoinette

It’s good to see that trav-ed is still alive.

Thank you for bringing this to people’s attention.

I was pleased to see that the Northern TES Coordinators have responded very forcefully.

ACERT is also submitting a response, which is co- signed by various interested organisations including FFT, TM, RSG, Showmen’s Guild London section.

Let’s hope that Ofsted take notice.

Margaret
