As part of the 9th International
Conference on Remediation of Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compounds (Monterey, California; May 19-22, 2014), we have agreed to organize a session tentatively called “Lesser chlorinated compound (e.g., 1,2,3-TCP and 1,2-DCA) attenuation pathways”.
We would like the session to cover all aspects (e.g., fate, remediation, toxicity/risk, regulation) of the family of chlorinated solvents with few chlorines per carbon. We chose 1,2,3-trichloropropane (TCP) and 1,2-dichoroethane (DCA) as examples because some of the challenges and opportunities they represent are analogous. Papers on any of the "lesser chlorinated" (or halogenated) methanes, ethanes, and propanes (1,2-DCP, EDB, 1-bromopropane, etc.) are welcome. Some papers on lesser halogenated ethenes (DCE's and VC) and propenes (e.g., DBCP) may also be appropriate.
Our goal in choosing this theme is to advance the overall state of the practice for dealing with this--especially challenging--class of contaminants by bringing together results from across the whole spectrum of "lesser chlorinated" compounds. Papers that provide a unifying perspective on this family of contaminants are especially encouraged.
If you have any questions about what we are planning for this session, please feel free to contact us:
To submit your abstract, please follow the instructions provided at the conference website:
To link your abstract to our session, enter "Paul Tratnyek" or "Eric Suchomel" under "submittal requested by".
The abstract deadline is September 15th.
Please note that the following general conference rules apply:
- Placement cannot be guaranteed. Most platform sessions will have 4 or 6 platform slots. Additional abstracts appropriate for presentation in the session will be scheduled as posters.
- All presenting authors and session chairs are expected to register and pay the standard fees. This policy is necessary because registration fees are the major source of funding for the Conference, and a significant percentage of registrants will make presentations or chair sessions.
