The text-shadow CSS property adds shadows to text. It accepts a comma-separated list of shadows to be applied to the text and any of its decorations. Each shadow is described by some combination of X and Y offsets from the element, blur radius, and color.
Optional. The color of the shadow. It can be specified either before or after the offset values. If unspecified, the color's value is left up to the user agent, so when consistency across browsers is desired you should define it explicitly.
Required. These values specify the shadow's distance from the text. specifies the horizontal distance; a negative value places the shadow to the left of the text. specifies the vertical distance; a negative value places the shadow above the text. If both values are 0, the shadow is placed directly behind the text, although it may be partly visible due to the effect of .
I would like to make all the text including all heading and navigation have a small drop shadow because the text is white on a coloured background. Does anyone know if there is a simple way to do this or would I have to add specific instructions to add the shadow to each type of text in each section?
How about adding the shadow on the page title and description on Parallax images? I know I could add overaly over the pictures and under the text, but I like the site more without the overlay. See examples below: I mean the text TAHDOLLA TEHOKKUUTTA and so on. It would be more visible with a small shadow.
What I am trying to accomplish is have multiple stacked text shadows seamlessly fan out, following the translation of a bit of text and create a 3D kind of effect (if I'm not making any sense, check out -pop/text-shadow-pop-bl).
Last time I checked a few years ago, support wasn't great for hex codes with alpha. Now it's pretty good but still doesn't have complete support on mobile and will never be supported in any IE version. We'll consider whether or not it's worth adding support for it but it might be a little while before we get around to it because we're pretty focused on a couple of more important things right now. Until then, stick with animating the opacity, autoAlpha, or using rgba.
As you can probably tell, stacking shadows underneath the text in the beginning produces a thin (but very visible on a contrast-y background) outline effect. In vanilla CSS, I fixed this by having all of the shadows transparent initially, then making them opaque in the first frame of the animation. What would be an elegant solution to this in GSAP?
In general it's best to avoid using text shadows. To create this effect I would create either two SVG paths (each being one version of the text outlines) or two HTML elements layered. Either approach will perform better and likely be less buggy in terms of rendering.
If you're not applying this effect to a text box, how are you placing the text over the image? Have you tried highlighting the text itself and applying the shadow (from the formatting menu - not the shape effects)? Try that and then preview the project. Does it show up now?
I am having this issue too. There appears to be no way to apply glow effects to the actual text. Whereas in PPT when you highlight text you can click "Text Effects" to give the text itself shadows, glows etc. In Storyline is appears to only let you apply the effects to the text box itself, which isn't what we want to achieve.
We don't share any updates or road maps in regards to feature requests or new updates/versions. The best way to stay up to date on news from Articulate is to follow along with our Word of Mouth blog.
Thanks Jake - I certainly understand and I know that thought is something we've shared with our product development team in the past, and you're welcome and encouraged to share your thoughts as well in the form of a feature request for a road map.
I'm a newbie here and scoured to find something on this subject after unsuccessfully trying to apply a hover glow over text and not the text box. I tend to use hover and glow features quite a bit. I agree with Jake that it seems an odd feature to leave out, considering the other ppt like options built into to S2.
Thanks James and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community. You can always share thoughts here in the forums and if there are particular features you'd like to see we also ask that you share them in the form of a feature request as those go to our product development team to review.
Johnny come lately here. I'm a bit confused: we need to put in a feature request for a feature that is already there? I've selected either the text box or the text itself and both have the option of adding a shadow effect but neither works. Am I missing something?
Never too late - that's why we keep all the threads live. As far as the feature mentioned here, I am not sure if you were running into the same issue. I just tested in Storyline 2 and I was able to add a shadow to the text by clicking the text box or highlighting the text itself. I did this using the Shadow icon on the "Font" tab vs. the "Format shape" set up as you showed that is for the shape itself, not the text within it.
If I'm misunderstanding can you share a bit more information or a copy of your .story file here with us to take a look at? You can attach it using the "Add Attachment" button at the bottom of the reply window.
I am also having trouble with the text shadow feature... I was able to find it in the "Font" tab, but when I click it, nothing happens to the text. I tried it both by selecting the text box as well as highlighting the text in the box. Any ideas? Thank you!
Drop shadow for text (under shape effects) in fact do work from what I can tell, you just can't see them in the design view for some reason. If you preview the slide or publish your course they will show up. A strange and confusing bug for sure.... Hopefully this helps.
Highlight the text > Format > Shape Effect > Shadow > pick a shadow, Select Shadow Effect again > Shadow > Options > set the transparency to 20%, blur to 3 and offset to 2 pixel. Then Preview > This Slide
In your example, if you remove the box and background of "sleepy tiger" and want "sleepy tiger" to cast a shadow of the background tiger, I only know the procedure above. But I have not been able to FORMAT PAINT to the other label TEST TEST in your example.
Ok this is great, it works. Next improvement, how can I modify the default for the "shadows" so that when i pick "right & lower" shadow I automatically get the defaults I want ? Because the copying attribute also changes issues like superscript, font color or alignment ...
Ah, great question! The preset shadow settings are selected by default, and there isn't a way to change those default settings. I can definitely see how that would be a handy improvement and an excellent candidate for a feature request!
Yes i can, I was just learning SL3 and making the lecture at the same time, so now I had to go back and fix a bunch of little formatting. In fact, I created a slide where i copy all the common objects (arrows, sample text..) so i can just pick one from there.
I'm going through tutorials for Storyline 360, and the format painter isn't working for me. I viewed the screen recording you linked to in your comment above. But, when I click on a button, then click Format Painter, then click on another button, nothing is happening. I'm following this tutorial: -storyline-360-tutorial-how-to-create-your-first-slide#5
Make sure you are clicking on the button and not the text in the button, you should see changes to the mouse cursor. Relay dependent on the machine you are on (I think it is driver related) but I find track pads and pointers are worse than mice.
Thank you very much for responding! Attached is the file. In the meantime, I recreated the slide I was having problems with, removed the formatting, but now my Next and Back button are rendering with the wrong text. You can see it all on Slide 2 of Scene 1.
Some more information. I've reinstalled Storyline. Then I also tried rebuilding the file. But still exhibiting the same problems. What finally has temporarily solved the problem for me is if I switch from font from the Title "Introduction" to a more standard font (from JanieHmk to Arial). Then my buttons render correctly. Still need help though, as the client standard is to use JanieHMK for headings. Appreciate any help. Also attaching a before and after screenshot so you can see.
In FieldManager.story, the font appears differently than it does in your images. Did you download the font? If so, can you make sure that it's saved on your local drive rather than an external server?
The Keynote will be available to stream on apple.com, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel. On-demand playback will be available after the conclusion of the stream.
In imovie 10.0.3 there seems to be a bug that won't let you add drop shadows to text but you should be able to 'remove' dropshadow by sliding the first slider all the way to the left to make the opacity = 0.
