I manage a Web Clip for a team of engineers who use a CMDB solution (ServiceNow) for checking industrial & scientific equipment in the field. They do this on iPads using Safari. The CMDB solution is a cloud-based web interface, no third-party apps are required. Basically, I use MDM to push-out a Web Clip that tells Safari to open a specific private URL on the engineers iPads.

We have realized that Safari renders the ServiceNow web interface incorrectly at times. Engineers are complaining of horizontal scrolling issues, zombied drop-down menus, etc. As of iOS 8.1.3, the issues are still not resolved. Both Apple and ServiceNow are aware of my issues.

The good news is that we have discover that Google Chrome on iOS doe not exhibit the rendering issues. Thus, there has been discussion to pull the Safari Web Clip via MDM and push-out a new Web Clip that will force the engineers to use Google Chrome instead. Google Chrome is a managed app, so pushing our Chrome will be easy.

At first I had made a redirect page and linked the webclip to that thinking that solved the issue. Turns out Safari is awesome and leaves the tab open. Once you re-open Safari, BOOM haiku opens again in Chrome.

How do you get this to work with an HTTPS? that method works perfectly for a non https site. Putting googlechrome:// actually leaves out the : after https so it can't find the page. leaving out https entirely, makes it think it's not valid webpage (would work for non https sites).

Stumbled across this thread when trying to figure out if you can set a default browser via MDM commands, and also stumbled across which suggests that TargetApplicationBundleIdentifier can be set to com.google.chrome to force a webclip to open in Chrome, or com.apple.safari to force a webclip to open in Safari but I haven't tried this (yet.)

At least I know now that I have Browser Preview (as a backup) and the ability to manually put the localhost IP and port 5500 into the Chrome browser address bar (with Live Server enabled); these seem to be nice alternatives to Live Server just opening automatically in the Chrome browser. Thanks again for your help on this.

Hi , in my scenario , I have to open a URL in private session , So the sequence would be - Open Browser - Send Hotkeys- after this should I be using Attach browser , how would I pass the URL to the new Private Session.

I'm not sure if you were able to solve this issue but I had the same issue and this is what I found. I went to my system preferences saw the trusteer extension on the last row (circled in red.) I just opened that up and clicked 'stop Rapport'. Let me know if that helps!

I've had the same issue but with Firefox. I have no idea what it is or how it was installed. My settings are to not start Firefox on startup, but it's still starting up itself, and that's what it shows. It's not enabled, but it won't let me delete it.

If not in your login items, there could still be something in launch agents or launch daemons that results in launching a program. You may post an Etrecheck report here so we can look for possible culprits.

I'm not even sure how it got downloaded, unless it was part of a Firefox update but that wouldn't cause Chrome issues for the OP, and the only place I see it is on Firefox extension, where it's disabled and won't let me delete it. Is this a necessary extension?

I have this same problem, sometimes is happens once and day, sometimes twice a day. I have to reboot in Safe mode and then restart, but this is not fixing the problem and it is becoming really annoying.

I've been having exactly this problem too, it's happened since I did my last security updates and the browser always lands on a 'thank you for downloading trusteer rapport' page. I don't think I have downloaded that though it's insisted you have it installed by some banking websites I believe.

I eventually just installed it, so then I was able to uninstall it. It still shows on my Firefox add-ons without the option to remove it, but at least it doesn't automatically start Firefox or go to that annoying message whenever I turn my computer on.

Long story short - I ended up uninstalling Rapport which solved this problem for me. (I dont remember installing Rapport but I do remember the Santander online banking website prompting me to install it a few times - I've checked my Santander login since uninstalling and its fine).

I use Chrome as my default browser - but the web page that pops up refers to a Safari extension. So I checked my Safari browser preferences and sure enough there were 2 Rapport extensions that were not enabled. So I enabled them and restarted my macbook but still the Chrome page popped up.

In the Safari Preferences / Extensions page I clicked on uninstall on the extensions. However, it told me you cant uninstall the extensions - you have to uninstall the whole Rapport application (see point 4 below).

So decided to go for the ultimate option and just get rid of the Rapport application - which remember I dont recall actually installing in the first place and secondly doesnt seem to impact my use of online banking.

Is there a way to register a custom URI scheme (like itunes: etc) so that instead of http:// the URL in the email would be chrome:blahblah? I have control of all the machines that this would be opened on so doing registry changes with GPO is not an issue.

Every time I start Edge browser in Windows 10, if Chrome is open with a few tabs, Edge automatically opens all of them. This is quite annoying. Has anyone encountered this before and knows how to make Edge behave?

@Gareth_Davies, @Patbos, if the prototype loads successfully in incognito mode, but fails to load in normal mode, then this may mean that the browser extensions that are enabled may affect the loading of the prototype. Go to the chrome://extensions page and try disabling all extensions.

Hey everyone I just had this problem and i tried all the stuff suggested, (chrome extensions/flags, Open GL, and incognito mode) and the only thing that worked for me was signing out of the figma app and signing back in lol

Setting contains to the same url in get url opens the url in chrome, but what I'm trying to do is set any url from another particular website to open in chrome, and these urls usually have different looks in the other parts of the link, for example website2.com/26575, website2.com/47464, website2.com/89898

We checked the settings in Chrome and it was not set to automatically open Adobe Reader after downloading the PDF, and the Adobe Reader extension was not installed, so we weren't sure why this was happening.

On further investigation we found a setting in the Preferences - General tab called "Open PDFs automatically in Reader when they are downloaded in Chrome browser". Initially when we tried to turn this setting off it would re-enable itself when we closed and reopened Adobe Reader, however clearing the user's preferences from the registry and trying again worked for us. The setting is under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\AutoDocOpen - bIsAutoDocOpenFeatureEnabled dWord 1.

Uncheck the box that says "Open PDFs automatically in Reader when they are downloaded in Chrome browser" then press "Enter" That saves the settings. If you just un check it and then close out it will default back on.

It appears the issue stemmed from a specific Adobe Acrobat setting in the Preferences - General tab, related to automatically opening PDFs in Chrome. Despite Chrome settings indicating otherwise, Adobe's setting overrode it. Clearing user preferences from the registry resolved the problem. Further documentation on this feature may be available from Adobe support or forums.

Just fixed this for someone. There is two views of Adobe, "New Adobe" and "Old Adobe". You likely have "Old Adobe" going at the moment and that is why you cannot see the feature. I think this is a bug on the "Old Adobe" settings view.

To correct this, you'll want to go to View at the top and select Enable new Acrobat (about 2/3 of the way down). It'll prompt you to relaunch. From here follow the instructions from above by clicking on menu on the top left and going to prefrences. Uncheck the box and scroll down and click Ok.

Next is just a precaution for me, but close out of Adobe and reopen it. Then under the menu option there should be something about Disable New Acrobat, also about 2/3 of the way down. Click that and it'll prompt to relaunch. When it does, you'll have the old layout back and hopefully the automatic opening of your PDF files will stop.

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro 2024.002.20736 - but considering cancelling as a paid customer due to unwanted product updates, broken features, loss of previous functionalities in the new versions, Adobe is messing up a good product IMHO.

I basically need to launch a browser and login to those different tenants - one easy way of doing this is by having more than one chrome profile - but PAD doesn't seem to support launching different browser profiles (unless I am mistaken?)

PAD launches the browser with the login you are in. However, if you want to switch to different profiles you use sendkeys method using arrow keys/enter keys etc. This needs to planned properly using delay actions so that it opens desired profile.
