Frasier and Martin discover one of Daphne's inspirational books - 'Have A Rainbow' by Dr Honey Snow, which Frasier cannot stand because he thinks it's absolute drivel. Then Niles arrives and is telling everyone about his new stockbroker Wendell who seems to be brilliant at choosing the best stocks to which Daphne says she would like to invest $500 of her own money. Daphne then asks Frasier to get Dr Honey Snow's new book at a signing, and reluctantly agrees. Once he meets Dr Honey Snow, though, he is instantly attracted to her. They seem to strike up a rapport and agree to go on a date together, but just before they are about to go off to dinner, Dr Honey asks Frasier to take a read of her next manuscript and hopes that if Frasier likes it, he will write the foreword to it. Niles also presents Daphne with her a cheque for $700 - made from selling their stock at the right time. She rewards Niles with a big hug and kiss.

After two weeks, Frasier is still struggling to come up with a foreword but doesn't want to tell Dr Snow because he wants to keep seeing her. Niles is also over with another cheque for Daphne from having reinvested their money in another stock, and again receives a hug and kiss. When Daphne is out of the room, Frasier informs Niles that he also invested in the same stock and his one went down. Niles then admits that while the first stock went up, every other one hasn't and he is just giving Daphne her original money back 'with a bit on top'. Frasier complains that this is testament to prostituition - albeit of a less sordid kind. This sparks off an argument between the brothers, with Niles saying that his situation with Honey Snow is no different because he keeps lying to her to get sexual favours. Eventually, Frasier admits he will have to tell Honey the truth, and after they go back to her apartment for a nightcap with Dr Snow coming on very strong to Frasier, he is finding it harder and harder to tell her the truth. Finally, he does - and she gets turned on by this, leading Frasier to keep criticising her work until he goes too far and she orders him out

- Daphne realises she can't go to Dr Snow's book signing:
Daphne [to Frasier]: Maybe you could go to the book signing for me Dr Crane - it's just around the corner from the station.
Frasier: I would sooner attend a hoedown!

- Frasier sees Niles and Daphne exchange money and kisses:
Frasier: What's all this?
Daphne: Your brother just gave me $200 and now he's going to roll me over.
Frasier: Niles?
Niles: Communication breakdown.

- After Frasier finds out Niles has been giving money to Daphne even though their stocks have gone down:
Frasier: Niles, you are giving a woman money in return for physical affection. We are talking about the worlds's oldest profession - granted, this is the Walt Disney version.

- Frasier feels disheartened at having to tell Dr Honey Snow the truth about her feelings:
Frasier: Where will I get the chance to gaze upon such wonderful, succulent breasts?
Niles: Not to worry - that's the managers special at 'Farmer Jacks Chicken Chicken Chicken'.

A highly enjoyable episode with plenty of big laughs and fun moments. The part where Niles gives money to Daphne in return for affection was excellent, as were all the many put-downs Frasier and Niles dish out to Dr Honey Snow's material. There is also a brilliant argument between Niles and Frasier where they try to justify both of their positions which concludes with Frasier saying "Well, you're woman's......English" to which Niles responds "Frasier you've lost this one". All of which means this is yet another high quality Season 2 episode.

As much as "Frasier" rarely forgets the complex psychological
makeup of each of its characters, one of my favourite examinations
would have to be that geeky, desperate side of both Frasier and
Niles, stemming from their childhoods. (Niles' line from another
episode: "Is she the head cheerleader?" is exquisite.)

"You Scratch My Book" isn't the greatest episode of season 2, but it
centres very cleverly around how quickly Frasier's pretensions and
intelligence are thrown away when a beautiful woman shows an
interest. There's a great use of the characters, with Daphne a big
Honey Snow fan, and Niles endlessly bemused by Frasier selling out
on his ethics.

Good fun.

The victim is Sgt. William Moore. He and his wife were camping with his buddy Sgt. Roger Caine. The ranger says that Sgt. Moore went out early on a hiking trail to film the sunrise and slipped and fell and died. So NCIS gets a day off and we spend the next 39 minutes listening to Tony and Kate discuss their favorite kinks.

Abby has the tape mostly recovered, so they watch the two sergeants talk about shutting down the drunk guy in the trailer while the wife tries to talk them out of it. Sgt. Moore films the encounter, and it mostly plays out the way Sgt. Caine described it. Abby got a license plate from the video, and the trailer is registered to David Runion.

Abby pulls up the last of the tape, which is where we came in at the beginning of the episode. It shows Sgt. Moore slipping and falling. But the impact of the camera did something [technical jargon] to the tape which preserved an image that was recorded over. So the image of the camera falling is a re-record by the killer. Abby thinks she can re-produce all of it given time. Gibbs gives her twenty minutes and tells her to get McGee to help her.

And we head back to Sgt. Caine. Sgt. Caine thinks Mrs. Moore told Gibbs they were screwing and calls her insane. Sgt. Caine says that after Sgt. Moore left, he went to the campground showers for about an hour (doing what?) and Mrs. Moore was making breakfast at the campground when he returned. Gibbs interprets that as Sgt. Caine saying that one of them had an hour in which to kill Sgt. Moore. So who did it?
