The two most popular options for live streaming software are OBS Studio and Streamlabs. Both are compatible with major streaming platforms like YouTube, Twitch and Facebook and both have features that live video content creators need. Although OBS and Streamlabs are similar in a lot of ways, they have some key differences. This comparison guide will help you decide which one is right for you: OBS or Streamlabs?

Open Broadcaster Software was officially released in 2012. It is open-source, which means developers can create customizable plug-ins and awesome effects. Because anyone can review the code at any time, it also means bugs and glitches get resolved quickly.

OBS is primarily known as a live streaming software but you can also use it as a screen recorder. You can also add your camera and mic as sources to make your screen capture more dynamic. OBS lets you live stream and record video at the same time as well.

The OBS Studio interface is fully customizable, from the position of the screen to the size of the windows. Simply drag and drop every element of the workspace. Additionally, the variety of settings lets you configure the program to meet your specs, including the frame rate (fps).

Because OBS Studio is the oldest software of its kind, it receives the latest updates, features and patches quickly. For example, if Nvidia releases an update, like a new GPU encoder or driver, OBS Studio will be among the first broadcasting programs to receive it.

OBS integrates with all major streaming platforms, but it only allows you to choose one of those destinations to broadcast to at a time. If you want to stream to multiple platforms at the same time, you can use a tool like Restream, which easily integrates with OBS.

If you want the high performance that OBS provides with the added power of multistreaming and customizations to your live videos, you can connect OBS to Restream. You can benefit from these additional features:

One of the most practical features Streamlabs offers is the test widget. This button lets you check everything with one simple click before going live. You can also make sure your stream alerts are set up properly.

Streamlabs lets you receive tips from your viewers without charging a fee. You can also design and sell merch within the Streamlabs platform. If you upgrade to Streamlabs Ultra, you can create a custom tip page with your own domain name.

Unfortunately, all the fancy features, custom themes and useful widgets demand more resources from your computer. Therefore, make sure you have a PC with strong processing power before using Streamlabs.

I have problem with combination D4 + OBS too. I have OBS on in the background without streaming only. And after a while GPU graphics starts to get busy (peaks to 90-100%) from normaly about 10-50% max. When I turned off OBS, the graphics load dropped back to normal. But high GPU cause OBS.

Same issue as some other, Streamlabs just lags out of twitch and have to kill streamlabs with task manager, happens every now and then but only on d4 , i tried max graphics lowest graphics nothings fixes it sadly

I was able to fix this. I am on Windows 11, I didnt have issue with this til I upgraded my PC about a week ago. I have not figured out how to stop discord streaming not working but I have fixed streamlabs and twitch issue
I am running i7 13700KF and 4070TI
FIX: Due to memory leak that Diablo 4 has you need to encode your stream with your CPU. You want to chose Software (x264) this will use your CPU to encode instead of your GPU. What I believe was happening was the memory leak that still has not been 100% fixed plus encoding using GPU that VRAM is topped off and streamlabs stops sending to twitch.
I also locked my FPS to 144 to match my monitor

Streamlabs is one of the most popular streamer tools around, whether you're on Twitch, Mixer or YouTube. It offers a whole host of services, including overlays, donation management, custom notifications and so much more.

We first looked at it in the middle of 2017 when it started supporting Mixer, and everything that's great about it still applies. But if you're a streamer who loves Streamlabs, there's another tool that could make your life a whole lot better.

Streamlabs OBS is all you need for streaming! Our almighty developers have combined a streamer's essentials like video preview, dashboard, and chat windows in one app with better video quality and lower CPU usage. What a time to be alive!Streamlabs OBS is built on top of the core OBS engine. We want to thank Jim and all the other developers who have contributed to the OBS project. Without their years of hard work and contributions Streamlabs OBS would not have been possible. Much love and appreciation.

It's not a simple case of being a skinned version of OBS, though. Much of the core functionality is the same as the regular OBS Studio app, but there's so much more. One of the best features, for example, is when you're live on Mixer or Twitch, Streamlabs OBS will pull your chat into the program window, so you don't need to have a browser or third-party app open to see what's going on.

On the landing page, Streamlabs makes a bold claim about its version of OBS regarding CPU usage. The developers say its could see performance could be improved by as much as 25 percent which, if true, is reason alone to use it for your streams. Mileage will vary, though, as it very much depends just how much other stuff you currently have going on when you're streaming.

In a very simple test between this and the program I'm most familiar with, XSplit, I found some definite differences. The first is RAM use. Streamlabs OBS, with the same exact stream setup as XSplit, used 300MB less RAM on my PC. That's quite a lot, with XSplit almost pushing 1GB at times while Streamlabs OBS was much less taxing at sub-700MB.

CPU usage was also lower on Streamlabs OBS, on average I'd say around five percent, so not massive, but still an improvement. And this is just purely with a stream setup comparing like for like with no other programs open. Streamlabs is banking on you normally having a web browser open and any number of other applications.

There's one area I'm less impressed with, and that's in the actual setup process. In XSplit and normal OBS, adding sources and changing their settings is fast and easy, but in Streamlabs OBS this area of the app often hangs for me. However, since it's still a beta, some issues are to be expected.

The thing I like the most is that it pulls in Mixer chat once you're live, and that's just one feature in a long list of things this app can do that neither regular OBS or XSplit can. Do you want to see all your stream stats, donations, subscriber information, new followers and viewer counts all in one place? This app lets you.

If you use Streamlabs to manage this stuff already, which there's a solid chance you do, then Streamlabs OBS can do it as well. I'd be here all day running through every feature, but if it's part of Streamlabs, it's likely in here.

And that includes the vast library of pre-made overlays for that extra hot looking stream. Only now you don't need to mess around with it in a browser then paste a URL into your streaming software. Choose the one you want inside the streaming software, and you're done.

The developers promise setup to streaming should only take 60 seconds, and while I didn't time it, it feels accurate. If you already use Streamlabs, your stuff is automatically pulled in when you log in. If you've been using OBS to this point, no worries, your stream setup can be imported in a jiffy. Of course, if you're starting from scratch it'll probably take at least a few minutes.

Even though it's still in beta, Streamlabs OBS is an accomplished piece of streaming software. It combines most of what folks love about OBS with everything they love about Streamlabs, adding in some bonus features like built-in chat and stream titling.

I have a Nix Capture card that I am connecting to a windows computer with the USB-A adapter. I know the card is working because the out HDMI cord is projecting my PS4 game to the TV. However, I am trying to get the game image to show up in StreamLabs OBS. I followed the guide online, and I get the game audio, but all that I get is a black screen for the video.

The Plugable Performance NIX HDMI Streaming & Capture Card does not support the recording or streaming of HDCP content (except via the pass-through, as this will allow HDCP content to be show on the connected display) so in order to see the source input from the Playstation 4, you will need to disable HDCP. Just to make sure everything is connected and working properly, please follow these instructions:

Fantastic! I appreciate you working through those instructions, as they are rather lengthy. I am so glad to hear that everything is now connecting and recording properly. If you have any additional questions or concerns, or require any assistance in making sure you streaming experience is as awesome as it could be, please feel free to reach out to us directly at sup...@plugable.com.
