What I see is that they have created a video that might convince the average viewer( with no electrical training) that this is a done deal.  Ferrite cores are not new,  thay have been with us for ages.
 
The abscence of any specifications such as permissable gap between coil and pickup mechanism,  power loss,  weight of a unit that can transfer 1 Kwh of electricity, etc, means to me that this is still in the experimental stage and may be useful for limited locations.  
It would be nice if you can park your car at a certain spot in your driveway, or at work, and have it recharge the battery without messing with a cable plug-in.  Making a whole highway run this way may be a long leap,  but it will certainly do one thing:  It will siphon off any funds that any of us could hope to get to build PRT, DM, or anything else.  It will meet the approval of all who can think of nothing else but cars and roads.

I think that you've hit on some realistic uses of this technology.

It seems like bureaucrats, and other people with that mentality are using up funds in order to, well, use up funds. I remember a VP for NWA who came up to the cockpit when I had just started as a co-pilot on the B-747. He introduced himself and said that he was studying the fuel saved if NWA were to replace their silverware with plastic and he wondered what we thought about this. This particular captain that I was flying with turned around and asked a simple question, "Why don't you just WASH the airplanes once in a while? There are studies that show a B-747 can have 10,000 lbs of dirt attached to it." The guy's jaw dropped and he left. It was out of his area of study.

How close is this study to the NWA study, in character?

Or for fuel saving, load the airplane so its center of gravity is a foot or two further aft.

I was impressed with a shipment in the late '70s with Braniff. I went into their shipping office with my box. They weighed it and put it into a computer that already showed the load and the most economical CG. I wonder if airlines are doing that even now.

Probably. Dave Petrie is  more "up" on the current practice than I.
 
Automated pitch stability and controle, autopilots and such make very aft C G's feasible. I guess the optimum is zero tail load, and ability for manual control if there is an automation failure.
 
Stealth designs probably depend completely on automated pitch stability.

The optimum is to let the tail lift too, at its best L/D. Modern airliners use FBW, can assume auto stability 100% of the time. It is treated just like the main wing spare-absolutely essential for safe flight.
