Dear friends, family, and community,
I've been working on the
Transgender
Oral History Project, a community-driven media project that collects and
share stories from transgender and gender non-conforming people. All
too often trans people are disrespected when portrayed in media. We work
with trans* folks so that they can have control over our own stories
and experiences.
Over
the past 4 years we have: interviewed 35 people from a dozen states;
created history exhibitions showcasing transgender activists at several
colleges and conferences; collaborated with community organizations to
host a dozen workshops
skill shares where trans folks* learned to create their own media;
collected and made available for free download over 40 self-published
written works by trans* people.
Please support our work.
We are growing in 2013! We plan to:
- Host programming with trans youth of color
- Host more media production skill shares
- Share stories from our archive on community access TV and radio
We're releasing a 2013 Post-apocalyptic Survival Calendar--a calender full of artwork from trans* artists--to raise money
for the project. Please buy our calender for $20 (including
shipping
and handling). IF YOU ORDER BY FRIDAY, we will include a free Compton's
Cafeteria Riot poster with your order! You can also support us by giving
a tax-deductible donation
today. If you do not have the means, you can still help by forwarding
this email on to your contacts or people who you think would like to
support the project.
Thank you for everything,
André Pérez
