API call to get segments returns nothing.

Hi,

This is an issue I've observed with Auburn University. During the day all routes and segments work fine. At night , there are about 3 routes returned for Auburn university, But a query to segments.json for these routes returns an empty data object. Is this intended behaviour ?

It looks like Auburn has a couple of routes during the evening which do not have defined shapes (and thus, wouldn't have segments).

Okay. Will shapes/segments be added to these routes in the future ? And do you know if there are other routes that exhibit the same behavior ?

Abhijith,

At Auburn, the following routes do not have shapes:

• Charter *
• Game Day Shuttle: Disability
• Night Transit: North
  
• Night Transit: South
• Tiger Town *
• Walmart Shuttle *

These routes do not serve stops in any particular order.  Since they drive based on rider demand, these routes will never have shapes. (Side note: routes marked with * have "fake" segments that aren't rendered.  This is a special case that is going away in the coming months.)

Several other agencies also have shapeless (on demand) routes.  We recommend that you do not hardcode any special handling of individual routes as they can change at any time.  It is best to account for this situation in a robust manner.
