Frequency of Real-time position updates and historical data

Hello, I'm working on a research project and needing data for routes that spans multiple runs, i.e. a particular route running 10 or 15 times to see overlapping.

When I access the real-time data from the API I get the instantaneous position of the vehicles. Is it possible to get historical data or do I have to hit the api every few seconds to get the most recent update and then store that locally to build out a dataset. Also, what is the frequency of update to the positions? Are positions updated every 10 seconds? 30 seconds?

The data is updated roughly every 10 seconds (from observation, I didn't find this in the documentation).

You will have to query and store this yourself. As far as I know there is now historical data provided for the live API.
