Subject: [NE Transition Town Activists Net] Inner Transition workshop in
Newcastle, November 12th
Dear North East Transition Town Activists,
Sophy Banks of the Transition Network has kindly offered to facilitate a
workshop on Inner Transition, otherwise known as Heart and Soul, while she is
in town for Transition Training. The workshop will be in Newcastle on the
evening of November 12th. Space constraints mean that places are limited to
about a dozen. We will be inviting voluntary donations from all those who come
along.
Some others on this list have asked me to explain what Inner Transition is
about: I am no expert, and this is just my opinion, but I see it as the
conscious linking of the changes we want to bring about in our outer lives, our
society and communities, with healing, personal development and inner growth,
and how we interact in groups. As well as the recognition that to change the
world we also need to change ourselves, it acknowledges that the issues we are
dealing with are powerful, unsettling, and potentially traumatic. However
positively we approach the task of building a fossil fuel free future, many of
us are going to find things all a bit much to handle along the way and will
need at some time or another to fall back on a caring, loving and understanding
support network. Inner Transition is about adding the Heart of Transition to
the Hands and the Head, about raising and addressing our fears, building
personal and group resilience, and making sure we are ready and able to look
after ourselves, each other, and all those we encounter on this challenging
journey we are taking together.
The exact format of the workshop will be up to those of us who attend: it could
be very open, or more structured, depending on what we all want. The aim will
be to share experiences and ideas about linking transition with inner work, and
how to bring Heart and Soul into the North East network and our local groups.
It will probably be most interesting if you are already working on Inner
Transition (are there any Heart and Soul groups in the North East?) or would
like to explore setting up Heart and Soul groups within your home initiative,
but there are no prerequisites for attendance.
If you would like to come along, please drop me a line and tell me why, as
briefly or elaborately as the fancy takes you. I'll allocate places on a
first-come first-served basis unless anyone comes up with a better plan.
