Hi ..,
I am a volunteer for the Global Poverty Project, an educational and campaigning
organisation aiming to eradicate extreme poverty. Global Poverty Project was
founded in 2008 in Australia and since then has been touring the world with
their ground-breaking presentation 1.4 Billion Reasons, informing and
inspiring people in local communities to get involved in the movement to end
extreme poverty. They have been across Australia, Canada and the USA and they
came to the UK in Feburary 2010 and this summer, are touring UK cities with 1.4
Billion Reasons. They
are partnered with many international development organisations such as
Christian Aid, Oxfam and Fairtrade and aim to inspire people in local
communities to take action.
Myself and two others are volunteers who are organising the event in
Newcastle. It will take place on 26 August at Hyena
Comedy Club. The event will begin at 7pm with 1.4 Billion Reasons
and a discussion with audience members. This will then be followed by food,
cooked with sustainable ingredients, a raffle and finally live comedy
entertainment at 9pm. We are charging a ticket price of £8 for guests, to cover
the cost of food, and any money left over will be donated to the DEC for the
Pakistan floods. Please note that this is not a fundraising event. The ticket
price is purely to cover food costs.
We are currently seeking one more organisation that might want to be involved
in this event by having a table where you can give information out to people
about what you do and provide any leaflets. The idea behind the stalls
is that people could have a chat about how they could get involved locally and
we would expect this to take place after the presentation (about 8pm) so that
people who have been inspired, can then go and find out how they can help.
People could also browse before the presentation as guests willl begin arriving
6.30pm onwards. We would expect to need stalls until
about 9pm, which is when the comedians go on but you are welcome to stay as
long as you want and enjoy the live comedy!
Is this something that Friends of the Earth might be interested in? I know it
is a bit last minute but if you could do it that would be great! Shared
Interest, Make Poverty History North East and Platform2/Christian Aid have all
confirmed stalls.
You can contact me at this email or on 07964628393.
Many thanks
