Dear friend,
I am writing to let you know
about an initiative being undertaken by Transition Town Maidenhead in partnership with Maidenhead
Friends of the Earth.
We applied and were successful to obtain a small grant
award to promote Green Homes in and around Maidenhead. We now intend to run a Green
Open Homes day event during spring this year.
What is an open home?
An open home is a domestic property where the resident
allows other people in their local community to visit in order to see and learn
about something in the house. Open homes are a great way to share ideas and
information with your neighbours and others in your local community. Sometimes
it helps to see things working in practice, and to talk to someone who’s
experienced the process of getting something like insulation or renewable
energy installed, to help people take action in their own home.
The programme is supported by the Department of Energy and Climate Change, and delivered by the
Centre for Sustainable Energy in partnership with Bristol Green Doors. They are
offering advice and some support to participants. As the next stage in the process we
would like to identify suitable homes in our area.
Can you help? Do you have green features either built in or
retrofitted to your house? These might be for example super insulation,
solar panels, a biomass boiler, a green roof, amazing compost bins, water harvesting,
ground or air source heat pumps. Would you be prepared to show your home to
interested visitors?
We would also be looking at volunteer help to provide support before
and on the event date, most likely a Saturday in April / May this year. Would you be willing to help your local
community become more Sustainable?
If so could you let me know and I will get back to you to
discuss practicalities.
Best wishes
