Hello friends,

For the last 6-7 months, I have got pulled  into an initiative to create a residential community which is supportive, cooperative, eco-friendly, sustainable and besides all can be a lot of fun.

Some go in the direction of ‘Co-housing’ which is an intentional community and the other tends towards what is called a ‘Community Land Trust’ (CLT) . Both have similar ethos of being supportive and cooperative, though the key difference being that in Co-housing the members tend to own the property whereas in CLT, the assets are owned by the community and not by individual members.

The scenario in either of the above cases is to create an estate, complex where residents have chosen to be part of the supportive, cooperative community and very likely, eco-friendly too. There are several living examples in the UK where such initiatives have created their Vegetable, Herbs gardens, Children play area, parking, communal kitchen, (to cook and eat meals together about 2-3 times a week), using renewable energy such as solar panels, biomass boiler, pool and share of common resources including the use of cars. The list can go on...

Subject to group's imagination and feasibility, such initiative can also connect with others via providing training, consultancy, counselling, caring, renting of premise, etc.

My involvement has been mainly in a different county and I am keen to explore similar interest, if any, which may exist in Maidenhead and surrounds.

Let me know friends if any of you wishes to explore this further. If there is a reasonable interest we could perhaps get together over tea and have a chat.
