Paul Winter Consort guitarist / singer Jim Scott to perform at
UUCLC 4/16
On Saturday, April 16 at 7 pm, prolific songwriter and former Paul Winter
Consort guitarist Jim Scott will bring a musical celebration of Earth Day to the
Kelseyville Senior Center, 5245 3rd Street. Suggested donation is
$10 at the door. The performance is sponsored by the Unitarian
Universalist Community of Lake County (UUCLC).
Known to many as the co-composer of the celebrated Missa
Gaia/Earth Mass with the Paul Winter Consort and singer of their
anthem Common Ground, Jim's gone on to record 7 albums of original
music. A tireless activist for the earth Jim addresses issues of
ecology, justice and peace in songs, poetry and short stories with
an insight and gentle wit. Though his guitar work might well
stand on its own, it's Jim's lyrical songs that remain his
greatest offering. He transforms any size audience into an
intimate gathering with an understated virtuosity and a disarming
presence.
In recent years Jim has turned more attention to composing choral
music and has compiled and edited the “Earth and Spirit Songbook,”
an anthology of 110 songs that feature many contemporary writers
who share his passion for the earth. He leads the Earth and
Spirit Chorus in Worcester MA a group gathered to sing this
repertoire of songs of earth, justice and peace. From choral
music to soundtracks for documentaries and the PBS series Body and
Soul, Jim has made music with a depth of artistry and craft that
separates his art from that of many other singer songwriters. His
musical “The Tree and Me” has been given full cast productions in
Jamestown NY and Albion MI. A whole line of Jim's choral
compositions and his book of guitar technique “All Scales in All
Positions” are published by Hal Leonard Corp.
